This is an excellent Bbq. Fantastic customer service. The only issue i have had is the chrome on the bbq. It does pit easily. I think the chrome should be stainless steel. No more chrome.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I Expect Better for the Money

After using a Genesis Silver B for about 15 years (zero problems), I upgraded to the Summit about 5 years ago. I was very excited to get it after only having Weber products in the past. From the beginning, the ignition/burner control knobs would split and lighting the IR burner is nearly impossible. Now I'm having difficulty lighting (2) burners, they only ignite from neighboring burners being lit. For the amount of money this grill cost, I would shop around and look at other options next time. I really wanted it to be better, truly.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This grill has great performance for roasts and steaks. I also use the rotisserie frequently. In Northern California, we have a wet and relatively cold winter. I have had to leave it out in the elements without the cover because rats were finding the covered grill a comfortable place to build a nest. I have had no issues with corrosion.
I did have a friend crank on the burner control knob without pressing it in resulting in the plastic breaking. I think that might be the only piece of plastic on the entire fabulous grill. I am now on this website looking for a replacement burner control knob.

I've had my Summit 4-series for 13 years. It is a member of my family. I grill on it year round in Colorado. One of my favorite things about this grill vs others is that it has really even heating across the grates. I also really like the infrared burner which I use for melting, toasting, crisping, rotisserie. Lastly, I like that it's made in the USA.
This is my third S-470 grill, only because of moving house, not because the previous ones wore out. The included features, durability, ease of use, low maintenance and reliability are fantastic. I considered a Genesis, which is rated higher by Consumer Reports, but decided to stick with the S-470 due to the rotisserie burner and smoke chamber, not available on Genesis. Also, the grate design on the 470 is more robust with larger diameter tubulars. I also like the built in rotisserie motor on the 470. My only issues (slight issues) are heat uniformity (slightly hotter on the right side), lack of electronic ignition (the 470 has push-and-turn ignition on each burner) and the push button light switch design for the burner knobs. The rubber weather protection for the switch only lasts a few years. It's impossible to find the perfect grill and all things considered, I definitely recommend this one.
On my second one. The last one was 10 years old and still worked great. Unfortunately the Ex-Wife got it, so I bought a new one. We live next to the bay and this is the only grill that has survived the salt air.
I like almost every aspect of the grill. It is easy to cook on and clean. Rotisserie makes great and juicy poultry. I even made a duck, it came out with crispy skin.
One drawback, a full gas bottle is very difficult to place on the hook for the scale.
I would recommend this to a friend!
