Next level home theatre performance!

I recently upgraded my HTPC from an old Windows 8 unit and so far this is proving to be a significant improvement. It can play every file I throw at it, including H265 encoded movies with HDR (the old Win8 unit just couldn't do it). I run it into a Yamaha receiver and I'm really impressed with just the stock components in the Byte4.
It came with 4GB installed and an extra 4GB stick of RAM in the box. At first I ran it with just 4GB to see how it performs and it was flawless. I installed the extra 4GB and I didn't see any difference. To be clear though, I'm mostly running movies and when I have the browser open I probably only have a few tabs open. If I were using it as a desktop with my usual 25 tabs open, the 8GB would be essential.
I also have the stick PC from this company on a TV in another room. That one I use mostly just for online viewing and as an occasional computer terminal. The big difference here is that this version has a lot more connectivity. We are constantly plugging in USB drives, MicroSD cards, and portable hard drives. The stick PC has connectivity, but a lot less ports, and it is mounted behind the TV, so it's not practical as a home theatre solution.
All in all, I'm very impressed. I'll update my review if anything changes, but the build seems solid, with good quality components. The Windows10 Pro install is a legitimate version and it has no bloatware at all. I mean nothing. It actually made me revisit my desktop setup to clean some of the bloatware off of it, because I couldn't believe how much faster the boot cycle on the Byte was.

This, and previously one of its predecessors, sits under my TV and handles all my streaming needs better than the operating system built into my TV. With the additional power of the Gemini Lake processor, you can do some quick edits to your Office 365 documents and get back to your favourite streaming service.

Needed something simple to use as backup computer and for media streaming. I has been using an older one of their mini PC sticks which was perfect for what I used it for. This time I decided to move up to the mini PC. This is a very clean looking compact computer that has enough power for everyday activities and due to its compact size, it can be installed near a TV with other media devices without looking out of place. An added bonus is how easy it is to upgrade if you need more RAM or want a bigger and faster drive. I highly recommend this line of products.
