Dependable Little Workhorse

I was originally going to rate this at 4 stars since it did struggle somewhat the first time I used it. Then, I reflected that I had turned it loose on more than a foot of heavy, wet snow which was well beyond its design capabilities. The 2nd time I used it was on 4" of lighter snow and it performed like a champ.
On the heavier, higher snow I had to back and fill repeatedly - move forward 6", back up and repeat as necessary. Packed snow, graciously generated by the town plow truck(s), required that I slice the two foot mound down in layers. But, we did get it done and considerably easier than shoveling.
Battery lasted a little over a half hour which was enough to do the 50 foot front walk and short length of driveway behind and along side the car. When it died, I plugged it into the house charger and broke out a 12 gauge extension cords (14 - 16 gauge would have been plenty for the 100 feet I had to clear, but you use what's on top of the pile; besides, bigger is generally better, right?). What a (positive) difference! Sno-Joe performed more like the 15 amp "big red" machine I'd used until it suddenly quit). Obviously, using AC provided more power to the machine than the battery.
With AC power cord attached, I finished cleaning out around the cars and one path back to the rear gate before I surrendered for the night. After the battery re-charged (about 3 hours), I cleaned up the lightly falling snow that continued into the next morning. As the Timex ad used to say "takes a licking and keeps on ticking."
Pros: AC / DC capability; relatively lightweight; easy to maneuver; works well on 4" - 6" of light-to-medium density snow; battery lasts reasonable time; more power on AC than DC; assembled with screws and bolts (no rivets to pop) - easy assembly and dis-assembly; two year standard warranty, 3 year extension at extra cost = 5 years; bright, forward facing flashlight. Oh - unless the snow is denser than gelato, the blower discharges snow far enough that the operator needs to pay attention to what's in its path - I consider than a pro, not a con.
Cons: discharge chute does not aim low enough - should be lengthened or curved down more - requires some care not to blast cars parked on the street (yes, you can aim it straight ahead, but why plow the same snow twice?); cord keeper not designed for more than 14 gauge AC power cord; somewhat light construction (compared with the much pricier "red machine" - longer warranty offsets that disadvantage somewhat; battery takes about 3 hours to re-charge ("old guys" take longer, so it balances out); no warning before the battery dies - goes from 1 light to dead stop in an instant.
There were a few scrapes on the underside of the machine out-of-the box - no reason to get worked up as I put more than a few additional dings on it myself. Also, there are a couple of what appear to be cord clips on the rear axle, presumably to take up the slack in the blower's power cables. I made one work, but have no idea how (or if) to use the 2nd. Instruction booklet no help here - no photos or drawings of this area. Lots of different languages, however.
Bottom line? Cost effective, dual power, single stage (what the blades scrape up goes directly up the discharge chute) snow blower that punches well above its weight class. Highly recommended - just don't expect it to zip through 8" of dense snow - make a couple of passes and both you and Sno-Joe will do just fine!

This little joe has enough power in the battery to move under 4" of light/moderate snow. Anything over that, or wet & heavy you will need to plug it in for MAX power, trust me, I learned the hard way! Over 8" you can shave off the top portion of the snow first, then move to the ground level. It has saved my back these last few weeks with the over 2ft of snow we have had. It can get a little slippery on the icy patches, but the wheels are plastic after all. I never fell, or felt like it would give way. Good boots will keep you from slipping if it does, and help you maintain control.
It could use a cup holder in my opinion :-)

Great product

This machine handled the New Jersey storm of 2/9/17 no problem. It handled 2 driveways and 2 rows of sidewalks with little effort much easier than handling a big machine even though you have to push it. The battery lasted the whole job and I didn't need the cord I had ready just in case. This snow was heavy wet snow and still handled it even where the plow put it in the driveway. Also the blower is light enough to fold and pick up and put in an SUV but yet still sturdy. Electric controlled chute direction is a great feature and knowing you can plug the blower in if you have to is a plus.
Pros: Great Value, Easy To Use, Easy to store, Lightweight, Unique Features, Great Design, Easy to assemble
I would recommend this to a friend!

I purchased this product because of it's light weight, which would work well with my disabilities...and it does!! Finally got to try it out today, and it makes clearing my driveway so quick and effortless :) I also agree with the other reviews I read before purchasing, that it is far more powerful plugged in, versus using the battery. Overall, a great product for a great price, and super easy to put together and use :)

I bought this Hybrid base on my experience with a full electric Snow Joe I purchased second hand many years ago. I got such good service out of it and I pushed it to its limits, I had to try this Snow Joe Hybrid.I am equally impressed with this one and it is a lot more convenient with having the battery ,NO MORE CORDS for most of the time. So far I have used it with very heavy wet snow to do a double drive way and front sidewalk. I did not get finished doing the job that day on one battery charge and finished with the cord. To its defense the snow was wet, heavy and 4-5" deep I was impressed none the less.I used it today after a light snow fall 1-2" and completed the driveway the front walk and went(2)more lots in both direction for my neighbors on one charge. I have decided to buy the 5 amp spare battery as a main battery and keep the 4 amp as back up (I hate getting the cord out) However there is a difference in the power when plugged in and I am sure sometime this winter I will use the cord again so as to not stress the machine to much. Snow Joe has a great product line and I am a very happy customer.
Pros: Quality Cut, Handling/Manueverability, Low Vibration, fun to use, Reduced Noise, Easy To Use, Quality Construction, Weight, Ease Of Assembly, Style/Design, Features

Three failed units
on February 26, 2021

I want this thing to work so I don't have to. So far three units have failed. I follw the directions to reset the safety, charge the battery, etc. I even plow light snow and walk slowly. But after one or two times the battery quits working.
I have asked for a refund or a different model. But looking at the other non-hybrid model, it has worse reviews. I see in these reviews others are having the same problem. They should probably give us the larger unit for our wasted time (I've waited a year and two winters now).

Does a good job

Gave my Snow Joe a workout today in 2-3 inches of not so light & fluffy snow. Having converted from an corded snow thrower, I expected a bit more power & stronger discharge through the chute. However, I was able to clear off my double wide driveway, sidewalks & a neighbor's driveway. I enjoyed not having the restrictions of a cord & was satisfied with the job when I finished about 40 mins later.
