Unstable router.

Bought this router 2months ago. Signal has dropped 4 times since I got it.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Pros:
The product arrived quickly after ordering. Setup was relatively straightforward. Lots of features you can customize in the settings. Definitely increased our home internet speed.

Cons:
Unfortunately, this router drops the internet connection at least once per day. When the connection is lost, you need to manually go into the router settings to the issue. After some further research, it turns out this is a known issue by the vendor with no fix (even after troubleshooting and ensuring the latest firmware). Unfortunately, Best Buy will not return/exchange the product.

This is a great router. Much better than my old RT-AC68U.
Pros: better range, faster speeds, easy set up

I had an old Asus AC1900 AC68U and upgraded to the Asus AC2900 AC86U as my main wireless router. I was able to connect the AC68U together wirelessly to form a mesh through the AIMesh feature, making the AC1900 a wireless Node upstairs. It was pretty easy to do just watched a Youtube video. Increased coverage all over the 4,000 sq ft house. Saved $ vs buying a new mesh network from scratch. Router is fast and very easy to set up. I also watched a Youtube video to add ASSUSWRT-Merlin firmware. The software is free online and is very user friendly, shows all users, loads etc. I am not a computer Geek and was able to do it with a little help from Youtube. Network is awesome.

I love Asus products so when I saw this was highly recommended from many sources I jumped on to it. Worked well for about two months then couldn't hold a signal to anything, it kept dropping the 5ghz band. So after troubleshooting, factory reset, tweaking setting in the app, there was no resolution. Glad I bought a warranty and got store credit back. I'd hold off on this one.

Fast and easily configurable for PVPN

Pretty good, once you get used to it

This router runs well, until it doesn't. Then it runs well, until it doesn't. I found myself constantly trying to keep the modem engaged with my laptop, when it wasn't in use it would disconnect itself and i'd have to manually reconnect. It didn't like my VPN at all. But in the end its been running good for a few weeks, its fast and great for keep multiple devices connected at top speed. 4 stars instead of 3 because i'm not too phased by technology needing to be babysat.

Excellent router. Quick easy set up, I currently have 100MBPS internet at home, my old router if lucky would give me 16MBPS in the basement. With this Asus router I get 101MBPS.
Worth the $200 I paid for it and would highly recommend it.
