This is my third APC backup unit. They lasted over 3 years and provided good backup for my Computer, Router, Modem and NAS unit during brownouts.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about our BE850G2. By design, the ground sockets would all appear to be closed/blocked from the beginning. In the factory, some of the ground sockets would be opened because plugs were attached to the sockets during factory testing. Not all outlets will be used in testing, some ground sockets would remain to appear blocked/closed when they leave the factory. So when the unit arrives to our customers, UPS sockets end up with mixed appearances of open and blocked ground sockets. To address this, please insert a load (with a 3-prong plug) with ample force to open up the ground sockets.

I've purchased and used various APC UPS products at my home for about 20 years. They have always worked well, and I've never lost any equipment or data to power line problems. I love the form factor of this particular UPS because it fits nicely into a bracket attached to the underside of my wooden desk which helps keep the various power cords organized and off the floor. I also love the 9 outlets which I absolutely require. The companion Power Chute software also works well. I bought this new unit to replace one that had failed after 4 1/2 years of faithful service (UPS broke but the battery was still good). I gave this product only 4 of 5 stars because in my opinion a UPS should last about 3 to 4 three times as long as the lifespan of the internal battery which is about 2 years per battery. So, the UPS should last about 6 to 8 years, not 4 1/2 years as did my previous model. Hopefully, APC addressed any shortcomings in the previous models with this updated model. On the whole, I completely recommend this UPS and APC UPS products in general.
