Failed to accurately calculate NYS taxes
on May 1, 2018

The software failed to correctly identify that I live in NYC (despite the fact I put in my address) and miscalculated my taxes for the state of NY. I only found this out once receiving a letter from the state of NY with a claim for adjustment. Going back through the software the only way I can accurately fill out the form is to use the override function, which then means I cannot e-file which is a NYS requirement. This is a huge catch-22 and a real failure on HR Blocks part to accurately input data from a Federal form to a State form.
First time using H&R Block product. It is not nearly as intuitive as what I've used previously. The most glaring item arose when I started to initiate e-filing. It pre-entered a number as my 2016 AGI, even though I hadn't filed with them in 2016 and they therefore didn't have my prior tax return info. Not only was the number they entered more than 10 times my actual AGI, but it wasn't obvious how I should go about over-riding it.
The program walks you through with questions that are easy to follow and answer. At the end, it is also easy to return to a particular section of the return in order to review your answers.
Pros: Easy to install, Easy to fix issues, Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import, Fast
I would recommend this to a friend!

States Input Confusing Causes Errors

Received a state deficiency notice after using the software for years. After all this time the software should work better for states, especially those that have not changed.
Cons: Time consuming, Doesn't maximize refund, Hard to prepare
