Addressing my overall title above: Fill-in the blanks & don't worry — HR Block has got it right — that's sarcasm — because even when looking at work-sheets it's usually appears calculated somewhere else — How do I know it's right?….
Details that need addressed: 1) There's still a kink in "Itemized Notes" it's been there for years. After you've finished, then try to go back to it — you might not find it — you might find it in a weird location — it might not open — it might appear OK but the data you've stored is missing — it might lock-down the whole software, making you un"saved" but having to reboot the software…. 2) Speaking of "save" — I would like to see a response when the "save" button is hit — sometimes it appears not to work…. 3) Why can't the Military Retirement 1099-R be auto-filled into the Ohio "state prepare" software?…. 4) dido for other data; like Bonus Depreciation…. 5) Ohio's education "adjustments" for the Ohio College Advantage Contributions asks first for 2017 contributions, then asks for "Prior year's unused contributions" :: does that 2nd question include 2017 :: that's confusing…. 5) Your "help" "FAQ" & "learn more" are good, but when I need them, I seemed to need more…. 6) Below on this form under: "Pros" How do I know it "Maximizes Refunds"?….

Better than TurboTax

I used TurboTax for years. This year I could not successfully download TurboTax and the customer service representative was unsuccessful in assisting with the download. I went to H&R Block, downloaded the Mac version with no problem and found it easier to prepare my tax return with H&R Block than with TurboTax. I am a convert to H&R Block and will never go back to TT.
Pros: Easy to install, Easy to fix issues, Easy to prepare, Fast

Very disappointed this year that even though I bought the premium to get the free state filing also, I have found out that they no longer provide the Hawaii state estimated taxes for next year and the necessary vouchers.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Easy to use but program is not getting smarter

HR Block premium gets the job done if you have stocks, mutual funds, and an investment rental property. I use every year so I always start by importing the previous years taxes. But there are too many cases where it asks you for information that it should already know. For example, the program will ask for some info and then when you click help it tells you to loon on line xxx on form yyy. Why not just load the information and ask the user to confirm it is correct. And there are other cases where it ask you for info and provides absolutely no guidance or explanation as to what they are looking for. There should ALWAYS be some type of explanation. And there are annoying bugs that they never fix. For example, every year it merges my address with a previous address. No matter how many times I re-enter it or if I delete form it always reverts back to the merged result
Cons: Hard to fix issues
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Wish you'd put the old details back in such as the list of expense possibilities in a list form to choose from. Had to go into the actual form to find them. Not everyone would know to do that.
