The 2021 version seems to be a step backwards. Maybe it's simply new laws/rules regarding taxes; however, I ended up spending twice my normal time doing taxes. The Premium edition should have complete and clear questions, which I found was missing in this edition.
The state tax portion continues to be the major weak point in the software. At one point I was told go through a long and confusing state form and enter the value I come up with.
Hopefully the 2022 edition will be better, but in the back of my mind I keep wondering if H&R Block will continue with the desktop software, or if they will try and push everyone to their cloud version. I hope the keep up with the desktop version as I have NO interest in putting my tax information onto a cloud server.
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare

HRBlock TY21 was hideous. Problems existed in the software and the support line was not worth the effort to contact. Returns would be started and the software could not reopen the initial file, causing the user to reaccomplish work. Added, how can you not have an automatic download from the largest consumer investing firm in the nation. This patch was not fixed until the 11th hour.
A total lack of customer respect was demonstrated by HRB. Have been a faithful user for 20 years. Will not use again.

Bad NJ additional pension exclusion calculation

The NJ additional pension exclusion was incorrectly calculated. I had to override the overstated calculation. Many retirees will get notices from NJ with penalties.

Easy to use but I could not submit the return electronically because the IRS would not accept the AGI from the prior year's IRS return, which was in Block. There was no way to resolve it and I had to submit a paper return.
