I used taxact the last several years and hr block is better, easier and more polished. It does come up short on some help subjects. When you select help on some subjects it comes up with a small pop up window with little info and no links. Taxact was much better in that regard. It also has no support for crypto currency, which is unforgivable in this day and age. I do like they don’t nickel and dime you to death like taxact did. That’s why I changed. I will stick with block and hope they improve.
Fee to e file state return, larger fee to pay state fee out of your refund. Did not ask enough questions to populate all the forms I needed so I ended up searching for them. Not user friendly. Will not use next year.
Easy to use. and in a logical order. The mini worksheets can be reviewed to discover logic used. I have used a decade and the consistency really facilitates entries. And electronic filing is the only way to go.
Adequate. Software does what it is supposed to do. Has improved in terms of not asking for data that it should already know. But I have a bug in my return. It merges two of my partial address to create a fake one. Has done this for the past 4-5 years. If I try to override it renders auto-file invalid. Not a major issue but a nuisance. Also, they advertise some some additional analysis but I find all of the analysis useless and a waste of time. For example, you can estimate next year's taxes but it ask you for so many inputs you might as well do it all by yourself. Why not have the program just use this year's taxes and ask the user to input an assumed inflation or any of several life changes. It just seems with all of that data available the program should be able to provide more insight. Also, I wish the program had a more unique name. Not a major issue but an annoyance when searching online.
