Makes it easy. As long as you gather your records that you keep all year, just input the data and answer the questions. The rest is pretty automatic, particularly if you use Block annually for your taxes. Rental properties are a breeze, as are investments. When you have an occasional question, the help files are pretty clear. Have learned to look at the actual files where there are listings to remove artifacts from previous years that may not be appropriate or necessary for the current tax year. Planning to stick with them going forward.

I will not go back to TurboTax!

I'm not sure why I ever switched from H&R Block. It works and it's half the price. It is much less stressful than TurboTax because they don't overwhelm you with questions that don't apply. Also, I like that there is an option for amendments and a free audit assistance. Took me about 3-4 hours only because I have my own business. Refund was much larger than Turbo Tax last year. I wonder if the law change had anything to do with that??

I have used H&R Block tax software since it first came out as Taxcut over 20 years ago. Had my own business and rental properties and always found it easy to use. The occassional hiccup was usually caused by my not following directions or not having the correct data needed. I have never found the need to search out other software, learning how to use this over the years has made doing taxes simpler. It brings in data from previous years handling both federal and state forms and estimated taxes. Updates are regular and easily downloadable. It handles stock/bond/mutual funds and will bring in data from other software seamlessly. As I have not used other tax software I can not compare, but as this has worked for me and I have never been audited, there has been no need. Never knowing anything perfect (except my wife) I never give anything a perfect score, reason for 4 stars.

Has some minor misses like problems that don't clear even after you fix them and figures it fails to copy from last year even though you used it to prepare last year's return. It flags the disability insurance for NY even though that matches what is on the W2.

I found a reasonably-priced version that included 1 state software. For the price I paid, and the ease of use, it was well worth the cost. I find it as easy or easier than TurboTax.
