2018 Self-Employed/Rental

I have used this product for years and the last 3 years it has had the same problem. It jumps from one question and skips the very important questions that I need to enter my expenses for my business. I have had to go directly into the Schedule C to enter the data to correct this problem. It doesn't ask me if I paid office rent to an office outside of my home. It does not ask for my supplies. It is very frustrating and takes time to fix the problem.
Pros: Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Could not efile. Had to remove our drivers license numbers to be able to efile. Next the program allowed us to efile we thought - however both the Federal & State were rejected althought our AGI was corrrect, Had to mail the
things yesterday after all. Now as I used a word meaning to stop. My comments were rejected as profanity?????
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund
I would recommend this to a friend!

Only one problem for me

When filing as Widow, it does not ask for date of spouse's birth or date. I pulled a worksheet to enter it since my return was rejected due to this lack of information. I hope that it works just putting in a worksheet.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast
I would recommend this to a friend!

Worked fine untill it was time to efile

Your program wouldn't let me efile because on my w2 my employer didn't have a state id because in the state of Washington we don't have state income tax. I down loaded my w2 but because of the lack of a stated id your program wouldn't let me efile. This is the first year that this has happened and I've used the h&r block programs for many years.
Pros: Easy to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The program did not file on time?

I am disappointed because I completed my return at about 10:30pm on April 15 and had to wait for the return to be "accepted" before making a payment. It didn't get accepted until the next morning (April 16). I am afraid that I will get a penalty as if I filed late.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Time consuming

Better every year, but some way to go yet
on April 16, 2019

The software gets better every year at guiding the user through the process and avoiding 'circular stumbling.' The software still doesn't handle previous year Schedule C, though. The program imports previous year's taxes, but when importing current year data, it populates a new Schedule C form and proceeds to work on that one while seeming to also incorporate some data from the previous year's Schedule C. This leads to much confusion unless the user is wary enough to label each year's business with the tax year in question, such as "My Own Business 2017". Otherwise, one can wind up with multiple copies of one business's data and tax info, confusing the program, the user and the final checkup process. It is unclear what would happen if one simply left the software to deal as it might with the previous year's business info (such as automobile depreciation, use of home office info, etc) it imports.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming

Not all imports from the previous year triggered the appropriate dialogue screens in the current year. Did not realize the imports were complete until I went to the actual forms to enter data.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming
I would recommend this to a friend!
