Good but State package was flawed
on April 14, 2019

Using for a minimum of 10 years, always satisfied with quality of product but had a special situation this tax year involving two state packages, the one package could not handle the information correctly because the second state package could not handle non-resident filing which was not fully disclosed before I purchased the program.
Pros: Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

WHY THE DUPLICATE EFFORT TO PAY FEDERAL TAXES
on April 14, 2019
Posted by: TASonthego
Why the duplicate effort to pay federal taxes. The information for payment inserted was used to pay my state taxes, but i had to go to another H&R website to pay my federal taxes. It never used to be this way. Go back to the original way. I kept looking for the federal payment to hit my checking after the state took the payment out. It never did - if I hadn't went back to the Taxcut program and looked again I would've been late with my tax payment. NOT ACCEPTABLE!

Fairly Good

It was okay, but a bit confusing in spots. The sections where you need to add on things like w-2s doesn't make it clear that you should add on another so at times you keep going and have to come back later. I hate those parts.
Cons: Hard to import documents
I would recommend this to a friend!

This year's software was not able to import info from E-Trade and that caused me headaches. Block had weeks to fix this glitch but did not. Disappointing.
Cons: Hard to import documents

Connecticut Problem
on April 14, 2019

The Connecticut program is not fully updated. It does not incorporate the latest rules for calculating the social security adjustment, consequently understating the subtraction from AGI. See Connecticut DRS Announcement 2108(7). If I had not caught this error, I would paid about $150 too much in Connecticut income tax.
Pros: Easy to prepare
I would recommend this to a friend!

I use this because I started using it a few years and I like the way it imports the prior years data. I hate the way it charges you an additional fee to file a state return.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund
I would recommend this to a friend!

missing features

I bought H&R because of the ability to see the "whole form" but this was limited as the forms do not appear as the IRS doc appear. Each doc should have the accompanying instructions but do not seem to, instead I was directed to the IRS site. I had a question that the H&R software could not answer and the IRS is not taking calls on the subject.
Also, the deduction process is backwards. Tell me what the standard deduction amount will be, then review options to compare my deduction potential. No sense in wasting time digging up info for contributions etc. if I cannot come close to the standard deduction.
Cons: Time consuming, Doesn't maximize refund, Hard to prepare
