Easily replaces Turbotax
on March 2, 2026

After over 25 years with Turbotax, I made the change (that I had already considered last year). My PC is not Win11 compatible and Turbotax home software now requires it. That and some other issues with Intuit makes me happy I switched. Software download was in fact faster than Turbotax. Anyone who has been using Turbotax and is gun shy about switching..don't be. This software works well. It did import my 2024 Turbotax file with no issue, all in all, pretty straightforward. 1040-SR, Oregon, CA non res. Rental, IRA, stocks
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents

Software needs major update. Still using MS DOS like basic menus. I've used the software for 5 years and it's still the exact same Windows 2000 looking interface. Major portions of the software are deficit or confusing and give no real help. Easy things that could be tweaked to help the user have been left unaddressed for years. Help sections will just direct you to third party websites with no further instruction or help. Having to pay for state separately is beginning to feel like a scam and because it's always popped on you last minute you miss the deduction for it. Will consider other software in the future. No reason to be loyal when the company gives you nothing updated for years.
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

My accountant died in 2020. In 2021, I used HR Block Premium Tax Software and my back taxes to prepare my state and federal taxes. Their program was very easy to follow. I have 3 rental properties, and the program led me through the process simply. I have had no problems from the IRS with my returns and refunds are electronically delivered in days. I was paying hundreds, and now I pay under one hundred.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund

Always good…except. This year it took until February 27 to prove the final Form 4562 Depreciation. I had everything I needed to file for my refund by February 1. I don’t know if this was an issue for just Block or whether it was an IRS deficiency. I know that I had a draft prepared by Feb 2 and no updates subsequent changed the refund amount. I would have appreciated much quicker access to my refund. Fair or not, I’m giving only 4 stars instead of 5.
