Super fun, but dark instruction book challenging

This is such a fun set that highlights the adorable elf minifigures. I love their new costume design and the red scarf. The little computer build is one of the highlights, so incredibly cute and perfect for an adult set since only adults will recognize these old-time computers :-D I did swap out the "keyboard" for a printed one from my own collection. The pirate ship, plane and piano builds are fun as well. The Christmas tree is one of my favorite tree designs yet. I love the colors, sand green and dark tan. The roof design was very smart and looks great. It makes displaying next to the Gingerbread House cohesive. The waffles are a really great printed piece. A clever build for the waffle dispenser station and the beds that shake. The light brick is also a nice addition and the green round 1x1 plates were clever for the wreath. And the deer has to be mentioned, so happy for one of those. I was a little disappointed at first that there was only one deer, BUT it's not a deer for Santa's sleigh, it's just for the little elf sleigh so it's perfect. I do hope more will show up in other sets to collect more. While considered one of the adult sets, playability for the kiddos is excellent. I gave this four stars because I don't care for the dark instruction book. I will say that the darker colored bricks were hidden by the dark pages and it threw me a bit from time to time trying to figure out what color I was supposed to use. For example book 1, the tree build starts with a dark green plate, but then the next instruction showed two green plates. I completely missed seeing the dark green plate was actually underneath the green ones. Seeing the difference between tan and gold was tough at times, too. And a transparent piece is always tough to print, but I was searching for a gray one and when I couldn't find one, I discovered it was just transparent. I understand wanting to match the dark boxes and their nice design, but LEGO, I say stick with what works. When putting your sets together, the instructions are important which in turns means that seeing them well is very important for the fun-factor. All in all, another well-done and popular Christmas set!

I have only one complaint with this kit: you printed the instructions on black paper. This makes it very difficult to see how the pieces (especially dark pieces) go together. Please don't print the instructions on dark paper! I just started putting this set together this afternoon and have already run into a problem where I can't determine how the pieces fit. Again, please rethink the color of paper that the instructions are printed on.

Not just for Christmas time

I bought this for myself but knew that my 6-year-old son would be playing with it, as well. I'm glad that it stands up to his play and that I don't have to worry about sensitive parts (flags, tree parts, etc.) popping off while he's using it. I will definitely modify it so that we can play with it year-round once Christmas is over. Love this set!

More moving parts, lots of play, excellent display

With the Elf Clubhouse, I have nearly completed my North Pole town display, which includes Lego Santas Visit, Lego Gingerbread House and Lego Hogsmead Village.
What is special about the Elf Clubhouse? In my opinion, it is the grandest of all. With a powerful working light and lever-action pancake skillet (imaginative play). The is a tilt-action triple deck bunk bed for three tired elves or guests plus a miniature elf-toy sized piano-keyboard for the musical elves, a computer with naughty and nice list for the elves to help Sanra, and several toys for under the tree.
I ordered my set while it was “backordered” just before Thanksgiving and it arrived in less than a week. I highly recommend this. Good luck.

Instruction book hard to read

I was so excited when this set was release and I couldn't wait to purchase it. Then I read reviews that the instruction book was printed on black pages making it difficult to view the pieces. So I waited. But the set was so darn cute that I caved and purchased it. Sadly, the reviewers were correct! The black background for the boxes that identifies the pieces needed on each page makes it almost impossible to distinguish the black and brown pieces. Even in excellent lighting I cannot figure which pieces are needed. This is frustrating and does not make an enjoyable build. I hope this type of instruction book does not become the norm for Lego. It may not be feasible for Lego to offer a printed version of the book with white pages, but maybe they can provide an online version for the customer to download.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We're sorry for the issues with the building instructions. We do offer the instructions online as a free download at LEGO.build/BI-BV! Also, you'll be happy to know we're working on getting away from the black background instructions!

Disappointing Set

Compared with other sets in the Winter Village series, this is a big disappointment. The building lacks detail and flourishes that are present in the other sets, the roof is barely attached and looks unfinished and there is no room on the baseplate to display any of the accessories.
Also, the instruction booklet is printed on a black background which caused much light reflection and difficulty in identifying some pieces, especially the brown.
Overall, a cute idea that was poorly executed.

Best Build This Year

The whole thing was a blast to build with my girlfriend. The techniques in the build are so unique. The waffle fireplace was awesome. The lighting was so advanced and want those with other builds. My only complaint is the manual. There were a few misprints in the characters faces that were different than what was physically made. Also hard to tell colors with all back ground so made color matching a little hard. Overall would totally recommend 10/10.
