Not as Good as Last Year
on December 2, 2020

Its a decent set but it lacks both size and details that the last few Christmas sets have. The outside of the house is fairly bland in comparison to the other sets specifically the gingerbread house from 2019.
The Christmas tree however has improved over the years from the firehouse to now. The details on them are getting better for sure.

Our set was missing all of the stickers! Pretty disappointed since the set was not cheap.

No Complaints Here

Building this set brought great joy. The detail is wonderful. The surprises were many. I used the Building Instructions at Lego.com and had no issue at all with the black background. The part colors were quite distinguishable on my monitor. The red outline for where the newly added pieces should go is helpful. Parts of the build that stuck out for me would include the lighted brick, the collapsing beds, the wrapping paper wall, and of course, the waffle dispenser. Pure delight. This was my first experience with the Winter Village. I had not considered buying the Gingerbread House until now.

Great Christmas Scene

The Elf Club House is a well designed Lego kit including a number of nice features (see other reviews).
The build presented a bit of a problem with the tension required to add the main roof. I needed to adjust the height of the connecting pivot blocks on the back the the house by moving a thin piece from above the pivot to under the pivot. This change allowed installation of the roof without tension that caused either the roof to bend and separate or the connecting pivot to come apart. I did have to sacrifice the under window flat pieces as the roof is 1/3 block higher. (refer the steps 101 and 102 of the build instructions).

Fun build

Fun build for me and my daughter. To me the kit is very fragile. The roof is difficult to get the light in that connects to the roof. But other then that it's a fun build.

Pretty good, but oh boy, did I make a rookie move!

This wasn't my FAVORITE build ever, it wasn't bad. Whoever decided that printing the instructions on a black background should really re-think that. That's the reason for the 4 stars. It was hard to see what dark piece was needed next, but I made it through. It's a great addition to my expanding Christmas sets.
My rookie move? I opened bag one, started to build and immediatly noticed that pieces were missing. I was like "what in the world?" so I moved on to the tree. Same thing. So I went to bag/book 2. Opened it up and found MORE pieces missing. I called Lego and talked to a lady to start a return claim. While I was on hold, I discovered that there are, in fact, multiple bags for bag 1, 2, etc. Man, I've been building Lego sets for 40 years (including the monstrous AT-AT) and should have known that there are multiple bags per "bag". Just a dummy thing to do. When the lady finally came back on the line (I was on hold while she was proccessing my return) I apologized many times and boy, did I feel dumb. Anyway, great set for expainding your Christmas village.

Hey, we've all been there! We're just happy you weren't missing the parts after all - that's the most important thing! You'll be happy to hear we're already looking at phasing out the dark background building instructions! We don't have a timeline just yet, but it's happening!

Nice addition with caveats

I usually buy the annual LEGO Holiday set. My wife and I have been building the holiday sets each year for Christmas. We disassemble them after the holiday season and sometimes our grandkids get involved in rebuilding them.
My wife built this set and while the result is a beautiful addition to the collection, the Elf Club House is more of a display piece rather than play piece. It seems that with each new model, LEGO is adding incredible detail which makes the final result look stunning but also adds tons of small 1x1 parts which are easily lost and can be quite frustrating to assemble.
I had to help my wife at several steps throughout the build in part because the instruction books printed on black background obscuring the already poor contrast of LEGO colors. Even in the previous generation of instructions printed on lighter blue, color accuracy and contrast were poor. With black background it is almost impossible to make out certain colors and placement. Bring back the old blue books, please!
This set, as others in the holiday series, are not very playable for kids under 10. The sets are fragile with parts easily coming apart (i.e.: "breaking") with the kids frustrated because they can't reassemble them. Increasingly we find building these sets for the holidays are for display only which is very frustrating for younger kids since they want to play with them; it is LEGO after all. :)
