Great Set!

I absolutely adore this set. I played with Legos as a kid but only recently got back into it 30 years later. The castle themes were always my favorite. So happy they decided to make a medieval set for the Ideas brand. Its a fun build, not complicated but very enjoyable to just sit back and build it up. My only complaint would be the directions for the tree build were a bit confusing, that's the only part of the build I didn't enjoy. I'm looking forward to pairing this with the Ideas Tree House set and the Winnie the Pooh set coming out soon to make a nice little display with the tree themes. I really hope Lego decides to make more adult themed Medievel/Castle sets...I would buy everyone of them :)

Hobbyist blacksmith and AFOL

As a hobbyist blacksmith and lifelong Lego enthusiast this set was a dream come true. The passthrough forge is clever but nothing I've ever seen in real life before. I've seen comments from people about a few details that they didn't understand that any real blacksmith recognizes immediately. The types and grades of metal, the coal and the cord wood, the grinding wheel, and the bellows. The light brick is so effective in this set that I don't even mind that the bellows are simple and stylized instead of realistic or offering more playability. If I recall correctly the only thing missing from the shop is a leg or post vise, an obscure but necessary tool. Swage blocks and mandrels would be hard to include. Maybe a black 1x1x1 cone. I would have preferred an apprentice and an outbuilding to the knights but maybe this means Lego will release more Castle/knights/medieval sets, which I am all for.
More like this please.

Great display AND playset!

Originally this set wasn't on my radar, but as the release date approached I decided I should get it. My 6 year old son loves doing battles between Star Wars and my Lego city setup so I thought a massive Castle theme would be great for him and I to play with. I ordered a bunch of retired castle sets and built them on a 25 baseplate table setup we have. Then we waited for this one. First off, he couldn't wait for the last bag with the Black Falcons. He loves their heraldry. He and my 9 year old daughter took turns building. They got very frustrated with the tree and I had to monitor the roof for some spacing mistakes. I did only a few steps and they enjoyed the build. It pained me to observe because I wanted to build it myself ;) Anyway, now it is placed in our scene and my son loves it. The light brick is a nice touch. Bravo, Lego!

Really Cool Set

I really enjoyed building this set and stretched it out over a couple days. The value is definitely there for the awesome pieces you receive and it took me back to the classic castle sets from when I was a kid. I hope they do a medieval theme, so I can spend my adult dollars on it haha.
Let's put it this way: the set was so good, I am tempted to buy two more of them so I can build additional medieval buildings to go with it...

Amazing set with a lot of neat detail

This is a great set for the MSRP price! 3 levels including a Blacksmith's forge with extra armor and swords a couple anvils and a fire with lighted brick. There is a lot of extra detail from the wood grain on the door (not a sticker) to the wood pile under the stairs. In fact, there is not a sticker in site on this entire build. The apple tree has a target on the back and a well beneath it. Up the stairs on the outside is the house, second floor is the kitchen/dinning room with a stove and a table and chairs plus a keg for their "juice" and even a cutting board. Up the stairs on the inside is a bed for two a bear skin rug and a writing desk plus a bunch of little hints of a great adventure that has happened or will happen. The roof easily removes for the access to this level and in fact each level comes off easy to get inside for imagine play.
This set comes with 4 minifigures, the smithy and his wife (an archer) and two knights. Additionally a dog and a horse, the horse is articulated as well. The cart that the horse can pull is nicely built as well.
AND as I had mentioned above, no stickers at all in this set! Amazing detail, no stickers!
I really can't say enough good about this set, so I will force myself to do a couple of criticisms. First, the second level when removed does have some very delicate parts on the side that if touched the wrong way will break off, not an issue when put together with the bottom level though. And I wish the lighted brick would go all the way up the chimney, or additional lighted bricks added, but the chimney is blocked from one level to the next. And last... the brown color... I have had constant issues with this brown color breaking and unfortunately for me, I have been black listed from ordering replacement parts online. However, the LEGO group is also the best over the phone customer service I have ever experienced as well.
Amazing set.

This is tied with Fisherman Village for my favorite set (build and display). Lots of fun to build details. I love filling up the rooms with creative lego objects.

I felt compelled to leave my first review after finishing this set... I love it! I bought it b/c I thought that with some minor edits it would be a nice addition to my winter village, but as I worked through it I think it has become my favorite set. I still plan to do some minor modifications to make it fit within my winter village.
When I first unpacked one of the black falcon shields... I had to sit and stare at it for a few minutes, wow, what a flashback.
