To scale or not to scale
on July 21, 2021

The greatest disappointment of this much anticipated set, is the scale. It sits somewhere between Winter Village and the modulars. I found this set extremely difficult to set in my layout. It looks so out of place, it's parts are now in the "free build bag". I am quite disappointed in this. While I understand the need for the larger scale, it's not conducive to a WV or Modular layout. Sorry TLG, y'all missed the mark on this one.

Poor Instructions

Verified Purchase:No
The set looks good, but the instructions leave a lot to be desired. I am a seasoned veteran at this, but had to undo and re-do a handful of steps due to shoddy instructions. I rate the set highly because I like how it looks and feels, I like the details and textures, but the instructions are pretty darn poor.

One of the best Legos I have built in the last 30 years. Exceeded expectations. Perfect. Creative. Fun!

Hurray for Castle!

This Lego set has been my favorite release of recent memory, it instantly brought back memories of my childhood. Being able to share the experience of building and playing in medieval times with my own children is such a joy. The set is challenging but not overly difficult and was a great way to spend some time together as a family. I can only hope this is the first of many new Castle releases.

Hobbyist blacksmith and AFOL
on March 4, 2021

As a hobbyist blacksmith and lifelong Lego enthusiast this set was a dream come true. The passthrough forge is clever but nothing I've ever seen in real life before. I've seen comments from people about a few details that they didn't understand that any real blacksmith recognizes immediately. The types and grades of metal, the coal and the cord wood, the grinding wheel, and the bellows. The light brick is so effective in this set that I don't even mind that the bellows are simple and stylized instead of realistic or offering more playability. If I recall correctly the only thing missing from the shop is a leg or post vise, an obscure but necessary tool. Swage blocks and mandrels would be hard to include. Maybe a black 1x1x1 cone. I would have preferred an apprentice and an outbuilding to the knights but maybe this means Lego will release more Castle/knights/medieval sets, which I am all for.

I was so excited to see that this amazing set was being produced. Built the set with the help of my two daughters. I was amazed by the detail and beauty of the build. My children love this and constantly want to get it down and play. I am so happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend to anyone that misses the old lego castle. Hope for more to come!

Outstanding Ideas set

Much like the Ideas Old Fishing Store, this set is packed full of detail and interesting building techniques. Each building floor is removable, as well as the roof for playability. This makes a great display piece as well. The two Black Falcons minifigures are a throwback to an earlier Lego Medieval/Castle era, one which I hope they bring back!
