Turbo Tax 2020

Turbo Tax has helped me prepare my taxes every year beginning in 2017. When I had my taxes prepared by a well known tax preparation company in 2016, I watched as the associate type the information I provided into a program that gave him the answers. I decided that I could do that and save myself $400.

TurboTax Use to be my #1

I am not as happy with Turbotax as in past years. I feel the cost of filing State taxes is out of control on prices. You have to pay for the download which cost as much as buying the software initially and then you have to pay additional $25 just to efile. This should come with the download for State since you already paid!

Selling Rental Property Exceedingly Complex

This year was required to file a non-resident CA return for a rental property sold in CA. The adjustments and carryovers at a federal level were quite complex and difficult. This was quadrupled at a CA level when trying to separate out carryovers, passive vs non passive, separate property sales not in CA, rental income carryover, separate out types of capital gains, and more. There is no reason all of this could not have been better handled by computer. The instructions were hazy, the place to look not well defined, and definitions were subject to interpretation. Needlessly took hours more than it should have.
