Getting More Complex By The Year

Have used turbo tax for at least six years and would not want to use anything else. It guides you through the program and helps you get thing right. If for reason you get something wrong, it will alert you and help you correct it. Great program and a very reasonable price.

Not as Efficient as it used to be

Investment brokerage statements used to import easily with no issues....NOW, I had to go into every trade to classify if long term, short term, etc. It is clearly categorized on the 1099 from the brokerage. I had a 0.01 cent disallowed wash sale - was NEVER able to reconcile it because of rounding. The year 2020 just couldn't go smoothly into the sunset.

Needs Development

I like it, but there is a definite need for development on the software. Attention needs to be given to the 109-MSIC section. If you open the form and discover that you don't need it, the system will not let you e- file later in the process. After reviewing the Business income section and selecting that you do not need to fill out an 1099- MISC form, the system will not save that response unless you close that section and click "continue" across the entire federal filing section.

Technical Support Incredible!!

I had an issue regarding not being able to access my self employed 2019 tax return online on the turbotax website. It was showing that I did not file my return. We were in a crunch because Healthcare marketplace contacted us needing my husband's 2019 tax returns or they were going to cancel his insurance. When I got to turbotax website and found my docs and looked under the 2019 tab to print my return, it showed my 2018 return under the 2019 tab, but was showing the date in June, 2020 that I filed our 2019 taxes. But under 2018, no tax return was showing. I knew I absolutely had completed the 2019 tax return in June, but at that time, it would not let me download a copy when I finished filing saying there was a technical error each time that day I tried to print it. I assumed it was due to the Coronavirus and offices being closed, people cramming up the website to try to get their taxes done before the July 15th deadline. So here we were yesterday, trying to get the information the insurance needed so my husband's health insurance was not canceled. On the IRS website, it showed that we did not file 2019 taxes, also, and I could not figure out why, since June 16, 2020, the date I efiled them, that the IRS, Healthcare marketplace, etc... did we not get a letter of some form or email stating it was not received, but we never have or did. So, after searching for a couple of hours, I decided to call turbotax support. Of course, it was a 10 minute wait to speak to someone, but I finally got a live person and she (Tonja) was very helpful, but after being on phone for about an hour with her, still we could not figure out what happened. So I asked her if there was a technical support dept. that could go back to the date it showed I filed and somehow pull it up that way. She transferred me to Jennifer and "the angels were singing in my ear"!! She knew exactly what to do. I allowed her on my screen to enable her to guide me and after working with her for a couple of hours, and having to trick the system in order to get back to 2019 tax software, we were able to pull up all of the info in 2019 income tax software and it showed that I had completed everything, however for some reason, even thought it said I had submitted my taxes and they were accepted the day that I filed in June, it never went through and we never got a notice saying it didn't. It showed the different sections and out to the right, there were 5 areas that needed reviewing...we reviewed, all of the info I entered back then was there and correct and once we did that, I was able to download a copy, print and mail! Thank God, he was getting a refund or we would have been really screwed. Jennifer then also guided me to and set up for me to be able to file our 2020 self employed income taxes so that we would be able to use the free software and not have to pay for software or efiling. THANK GOD FOR JENNIFER!! Had she not been able to help me, I would have had to pay $110 to download 2019 tax software in order to print my return and mail(that is because you can only file a previous year's tax return electronically, if a Tax professional prepared and efiled them. Thank you, Jennifer, for being so helpful, patient and just plain AWESOME!!! I will definitely continue using Turbotax every year!!
