Could be better

I totally trust TT to get the job done. But there are some points of irritation, to wit:
* No help in figuring required distribution. Not important this year, though.
* No help in figuring alternative minimum tax. I just assume it doesn't apply.
* Form for entering CA drivers' license is not formatted for doing this properly. First, CA DLs don't have an issue date, and there's no way to say that. Second, a quarter of CA DLs are now expired but still valid (COVID). No way to know what expiration date to use, but using the one on the DL does NOT work.
* We old retirees wind up spending an additional $70 to efile a CA return that nets us $2. We're not prepared for this, but you know we'll accept it anyway. Not sporting, old chaps!
* I got $48 royalties on a little book, and for that I have to set up a company. TT should do that for me, taking all the defaults. I am NOT a company, and I don't know how to set one up.

Adequate overall

The software is very cumbersome, in that updates take a while, and moving from page to page is slow. The info provided when you have a question is only superficial and provides little detail. All said, however, the product is excellent at taking you through the interview process and ensuring that, if you're paying attention, you don't miss anything. I was a little misled regarding the cost, because it wasn't clear when I ordered the software that the basic didn't include a state, which one would think it would, given that anyone who files a federal return usually files a state return. I ended up paying more because I had to purchase a state package to finish, which overall cost me more than I would have paid for the deluxe.
