Camera doesn't work.Called google did everything possible.Still nothing but black camera.No visible picture.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

excellent mid tier phone

replaced an aging Note 8 with the Pixel 4a 5G. I have been using it about a week and have very little to complain about. It performs well and has great battery life, the screen is much better than I was expecting and the brightness is acceptable for outdoor use in bright sunlight. The lack of a headphone jack is the only real hardware downside. Not insurmountable just one of those slightly annoying things, wired headphones don't need to be charged so on long trips they come in handy. The only real niggles are in the lack of some basic software. Google Photos is great but requires an online presence and that's not always possible and there is no baked in gallery app. The lack of a back button takes some getting used to as well, for me anyway. On the whole this is an excellent phone for the price and I have no issues with recommending it to anyone who needs a new phone and who doesn't have a thousand dollars to play with.

This phone has insane value for the price. Screen is beautiful, processor is snappy as hell, GUI is incredibly clean and efficient to use.Customizability is excellent. Love the ability to change the color scheme, even if it only really changes the swipe-down menu. Camera is fantastic. Editing software is really next level, you can literally move the light source. Lastly, the speakers literally have base, and sound fantastic. I can clearly hear my music over the shower, something I've never seen in a phone. 128 gb storage is great too, I downloaded all my .flac albums from Bandcamp and it sounds fantastic.

Excellent all around phone

Bottom line, I love my Google Pixel 4a 5g. The screen size is perfect. It's big enough to watch movies and videos on. Yet small enough to fit easily in my pocket. It is fast enough and has the space to fit and run all the games I could imagine. And it's connected to the google drive for even more space. My only complaint is, I wish I could take square photos with the default camera app. That being said, I'm very happy with my phone after switching phone manufacturers.
