Pretty good for a layman like myself

Why is it so complicated????

Uh, how do you file electronically when you need to attach a PDF of the 1099-B???? Why, when I google this question, are there lots of folks asking the same question, and you haven't fixed the software yet? Why did I have to waste time finding a solution, requiring 3rd party software to merge the signature pdf & the brokerage pdf, and am not sure if the IRS is fine with that? Grr.

TurboTax Business Not Recommended

Not recommended for 1041 involving estates. There is no way to state that the fiduciary has a different address than the estate. The software kept wanting to create state tax forms in the wrong state and could not clear the wrong state. The software crashed right at the time I was ready to transmit and I needed to re-enter data. The attached 8453-FE showed the signature but the document in the list and printout did not. So I'm not sure if the document transmitted with the signature, or not. There was no clear way to document that capital improvements were made to a home after death and prior to sale. I do not recommend using this software for 1041's involving estates. The step by step did not properly walk through all items needed.

Worthless and convoluted

Words cannot describe how difficult this is to use. You literally have to be a tax expert to even navigate this maze.

Easy for the most part

For the most part, you just need to enter items into Turbotax, but when there are things that don't make sense or you are trying to find answers, that's not so easy.

Good program but needs more automation!

E-filing federal return is very convenient and that capability needs to be available to file the state form with California.
Also, the ability to automatically download 1099 forms would be nice; this feature is available on Turbotax individual returns.
Program said you would need to attach 1099 forms as PDFs to support summary totals on schedule D but there was never an opportunity to do so. The only attachment that was allowed to be uploaded was Form 8453-SE.
