Everything is excellent as usual, except that the state files are not final at this point.

Not as Intuitive as One is led to Believe

This really requires some basic understanding of the tax laws to confidently prepare and file. Not infrequently one encounters a choice to be made and one finds oneself saying "I have no idea". While I realize TurboTax probably can't foresee every possibly scenario which might arise, I found it often lacking in some needed guidance and "hand holding". If it does not already do so, Intuit really should do some Beta testing with people who are not otherwise familiar with corp. tax returns.

Still Awful
on April 9, 2021

After all these years, and given how much this costs, you'd think it would be better by now. One HUGE problem is that it will not import data from financial institutions. For trusts that likely have lots of stocks, dividends, and interest, this is a big hassle. It is now possible to add your brokerage annual statement as a PDF, BUT there is a BIG bug in the 2020 version. You can provide the summary information for the capital gains entries, and the program SAYS it will as you to attach the brokerage forms right before e-filing, but it fails to do that. Even worse, there is no mechanism to actually upload additional documents if you remember by the end to add the forms. I had to use a PDF editor to combine the signature PDF with the brokerage PDF into one file, and have that attached, and hope the IRS will be happy with that. SERIOUSLY, TurboTax - such a serious bug in a very old and mature product? If there were a good alternative, I'd switch in an instant, but unfortunately, this piece of crap remains the choice I have.

TurboTax Business (CD) for Decedent Estate
on April 9, 2021
Posted by: Jayson Sim1
TurboTax Business (CD) took me through the long haul of figuring out my grandfather's estate income taxes and gave me the confidence that the taxes would be filed correctly. All the forms I needed were ready at the click of a button. In many cases, the TurboTax program offered careful guidance on any additional forms I needed that otherwise I may not have filed. TurboTax Business (CD) helps with the distribution of K-1 forms to beneficiaries which is obviously an important part of filing an estate return. Also, we sold stock in several companies and TurboTax makes inputting all those 1099 forms relatively painless, although perhaps a bit time-consuming. Even so, there were some nuances to my return I wish the TurboTax program would have explained better, such as how distributable income was determined and detailing how much income we were required to distribute, if any, and potential tax benefits for doing so. One annoyance with the program was with filling out the fiduciary's name, sometimes with a middle initial and other times not, and as a result some forms were printed with the full name and others were not. I had to override several entries so that the middle initial was included every time. As with individual versions of TurboTax, determining next-year estimates was confusing and full of holes and errors. My biggest complaint is that I needed to purchase the Pennsylvania Estate Income Tax Program separately, only to find out that there wasn't an option to e-file the PA Business return and had to mail it in anyway. All-in-all TurboTax Business (CD) was better than trying to figure everything out by hand, but if you want your taxes to be filed cleanly and with less fuss, you're probably better off having your estate lawyer handle it for you, albeit at a greater (though tax-deductible) cost.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

TurboTax Business still needs improvement.

TurboTax Business has improved a bit since last year. However, it still fails to capture automatically some of the company accounts from QuickBooks, for example, federal taxes paid. TurboTax Business must recognize and categorize all key accounts automatically!
