Turbo Tax Makes Taxes Unintimidating!

Using turbo tax and doing the taxes myself has saved my business lots of money. I was worried when I started doing them myself but turbo tax walks you through step by step and has tons of useful information if you have questions along the way. I wish I started do the taxes myself years ago.

It is very simple to follow the wizard and fill out the information. I have a real state business and it is very simple. You need to know a little about some terminology but Turbo Tax has explanations with examples so it is easy to figure out. Every year it takes me less time to file.

TurboTax is a good product for non-professionals

I like that the program is based upon the Pro-Series tax screens. As a former professional, it was nice to be able to go to the "Forms" screen and see how the program was using the information I was entering in the calculations. Saved me a bit of time.
Had to contact support initially because I wound up in a kind of loop in data entry. The associate who helped me was outstanding in her customer service attitude and her knowledge of the software and how to fix the problem. I give her at least 5 stars!

State return had issues

I am not a Multi State company but no matter what I did I could not remove this from the default in the program

In doing a partnership return too frequently I knew what the end numbers would look like on the final tax forms but it was extremely difficult figuring out how to enter the right numbers in the underlying support worksheets. Most of the time I used the override feature.

Turbo Tax this year was a disappointment.

I became very frustrated with the process of providing information for forms 8824, 8825, and 4562 regarding our complicated 1031 exchange which involved the trade of one property for 10 properties. The step by step questions about the properties did not identify the property about which the information was requested, or even whether it was relinquished or acquired property. The lists of properties were not accurate or correctable. None of the "help" offerings in the program provided a solution or an instruction on how to simply connect the requested values to the correct property.
Pros: I bought or sold investments
