This is a super drive it is fast and has encryption. I moved all of my data off other drives on to it with blazing speed. But in lest than 30 days the drive has stopped working, all it does is make a whir click sound over and over. I make a point to buy Western Digital because they are tough and last, but this time i struck out.

I own quite a few external hard drives; just recently bought this one. Doesn't feel particularly robust, not much weight to it. The main problem however is the data transfer rate. I use it connected to a gaming notebook with all USB 3.0 connections. The best data transfer rate it has achieved is 15 to 17 MB per second, compared to other portable hard drives which achieve up to 170 MB/second. I was surprised by this, as WD is usually a high-quality brand, but this one just doesn't measure up.

Worked for 2 hours and then computers wouldn’t even access and show the device in File Explorer. Never had this problem with a Seagate
Gave one star as it was on sale and now I’m out $150

I purchased this on Boxing day for my steam games Library and surprisingly it is 2x faster than my other external HDD that I bought two years ago ! I love the color and Password protection is a good feature to have but I hope It doesn't become problematic for me in future.

The first one didn't work. It was cheerfully replaced. The new one works well (after a week) and is faster than my 2TB Seagate it replaced.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Another great portable drive

This is my third My Passport. I still have my 1 TB and 2 TB models. The shape changes slightly, but the size and sturdiness stays the same,. I have accidentally dropped my older passports a number of times over the years, and have copied files to and from them many times, deleted files, and copied more. They still work well.
I download a lot of videos, copy them to the passports, then connect them to my old Western Digital media Player (unfortunately, no longer made) for easy watching on my 50" LED TV. It saves having to have a 10 meter HDMI cable running over the floor between my computer and tv, especially since my computer goes through phases where it crashes constantly. That would make it impossible to play a video on my computer.
The passports are also great for backing up data of all sorts, and so light and portable. You can easily carry several of them in your hand or have a stack of them in a backpack. Transfer rates are fast, especially with the newer ones having USB 3 capability. I copied 30 GB of videos in 10 minutes or so. I think I paid at least as much for my 2 TB as for the new 5 TB, so the price for GB continues to decline.
You can count on these drives to be reliable, durable, and fast.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Painfully and extremely slow

I got this hard drive a few months ago and it's frustrated me so many number of times. Do not buy this hard drive, it is extremely slow. When you're using it and starts to act slow, the whole operating system will take the performance hit. Whether it's windows or Linux the results are same. I have a Seagate 4tb external hard drive, it needs to plugged and is bulkier but in terms of performance that one's so much better, like very very much better. I've reached at a point where I need to buy another hard drive to backup the data from this hard drive and I'm very much worried that I won't be able to copy from this hard drive. If you just need to use this hard drive for light usage I still won't recommend it. Better look elsewhere
