I'm done with gas engines!

From the point of view of an occasional homeowner use, the Greenworks 80v chainsaw is certainly more than capable of cutting logs. The most striking feature is the silence in-between cuts, this is something to behold...you can't believe it until you witness it yourself. It's bizarre to be cutting logs, and put down the chainsaw for a moment and hear birds chirping. I loved my orange colored pro equipment, but I'm over the pull start, gas smell, and noise. Within a week of this purchase I bought the Greenworks 80v leaf blower and my other orange blower is on the shelf, I gave the chainsaw away. I look forward to moving all my gas powered equipment to this 80v world.

16” 80v chainsaw

I bought this within the last month. I had many small trees and broken branches that needed cleaned up. I took the saw out after prepping it (bar chain oil addition, inspection). I cut up hardwoods with amazing ease. I was a bit concerned with the provided life of the 2.5 ah battery, so I bought a 5.0 ah battery as backup. But the 2.5 ah battery performed very well. I probably didn’t need to buy the backup battery as I’ve only used gas powered chain saws in the past so I was a little wary of the stamina. At this point I’m fully content with the Greenworks 80 v 16” chainsaw assembly.

Never going back to gas/oil. At least not for the type of tree work that I do.
The 80V power is a game changer for me. Cuts through everything I presented to the saw. Biggest diameter was 11-12". Buttah. Stops on a dime.
Quiet, no smell, no mixing, good battery life. Done with Gas saw.

2. Over 4" diameter, Cutting is progressively worse with each inch
3. Oil leaks all over the place, even when stored flat (40v never leaked in bag)
4. Need tool to tighten bar and no on-board tool storage (40v was tool-less)

Let me start by saying I have a lot of 40 volt tools from Greenworks: string trimmer, chainsaw, hedge trimmer, lawn mower, etc. I have a 2 acre property with lots of old oaks, beeches & maples that need maintenance and cutting up when they fall. I bought this chainsaw to replace my 40v 16" chainsaw from GW which stopped working after 5 yrs of moderate use. Most of this review pertains to the difference b/n the two.
I thought the 80v would be an upgrade and since I just purchased the 80v leaf blower (also not impressed), I had another battery to use. My first use with the new saw 6 months ago was to cut up a 20' long 12" thick oak log. The saw cut ferociously to start, but after 5-6 inches, the blade bent and started tracking a curve, thereby causing the chain to continually bind. Additionally the 2.5ah battery only lasted for 2 1/2 cuts through this log - about 8 min of cutting. I have used the saw many times since and the bar bending is a constant nuisance. If cutting trees/branches thinner than 4-5 inches, then it is not a problem. The 40v saw I replace handled these same tasks much much better. It definitely has less power, but was way more dependable and cut for a lot longer.
In my opinion, this saw is not worth having around unless you are cutting really tiny logs in which case there are much cheaper and lighter options out there. I would have bought another saw if I didn't already have the battery and I regret not purchasing that one instead. I have seen my neighbor use his and it works much better.

When I first got got the chain saw I was impressed by the power and how easy was to use it . I cut a poplar tree in one charge , however every time I use it the battery will last less and less. I estimated that I used the chainsaw for about 25 hours total in the last 8mo and now the battery last for about 5min . The replacement batteries are very expensive , so basically in the chain saw is useless. Pretty disappointed
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

When the battery will not be in use, we suggest storing it indoors, in a cool dry area - away from direct sunlight. Leave the charger unplugged and the battery disconnected from the charger unless it needs charging. It is recommended to store the battery with a full charge, and if it is being stored for a period where no use is expected, to check on the charge every couple of months. If you notice the charge has dropped, we advise charging the battery back up to full before returning it to its safe storage place.
