Life changing! I wish I bought it years ago instead of struggling with an aero press. Love love love it! Coffee time has become a ritual in our house now. Easy to use and clean.
The Bambino Plus makes a wonderful cappuccino, and is incredibly easy to use for a novice. However, after receiving a replacement unit due to a leaking issue, I'm finding that the new unit is creating the same mess under the unit with each use. It's not that big of a deal, but a slight hassle. Maybe it's user error, as this is my first experience with using an espresso machine.
This espresso machine is solidly made, attractive, and works as designed. WIth a little practice, I was able to make excelllent espresso. My first batch was thin because I did not tamp down hard enough on the grind. Once you know the correct depth by sight, the razor is useless. I recommend using it once to see how deep the grind should be and then not use it thereafter.
This is a capable machine. The best thing is the quick heat up. 3 seconds and it’s ready. Really only 3 seconds!! Heating milk is super easy and I like it very much (don’t expect latte art with the auto settings). Two things that could be better: 1. I wish I could change the brew temp. 2. The drip tray is named correctly, so I wish they made a “no-drip tray” instead. It’s too small, it must be emptied after one espresso and one steam cycle, and then you must wipe under the machine. (Even with those issues I would buy this again.)
I have owned a Bambino plus for about 4 months, so the long haul has not been tested. So far it has worked well for me, given the need for a small footprint and desire for espresso plus foamed milk. It is equipped with a fairly small basket with a small handle, and the larger easy to get alternative basket has an open bottom which sprits all over the place and no crema - so not such a great alternative despite endorsements you see. You can adjust the pull time, which helps to get a good-tasting shot (your only option really). Also maybe choose dark roast beans. Temperature of extraction cannot be adjusted - a negative. You can adjust the pull time for single and double shot easily - nice. The milk foaming is automated but you have to remember to put the milk container on the temperature sensor os it bubbles over. Need whole milk and milk frothing is automatic with temperature and degree of frothing adjustable - nice. The device is very electronic but it works, so far. After 200 shots you get a flashing warning to back flush the system but the manual does not warn you how long the process takes. Let it go to the end. When water is out (yes you can have this happen without noticing it sometimes), you just see lights on for temp and frothing with no idea why, not in manual as far as I can see. But still, on the positive side, it does shut down when water is out. So in my experience the manual is sometimes a problem (had problem with regard to basket liner for a while). You CAN get hot water! Despite claims to the contrary by reviews. just press single shot and lower right most button for a brief time, Then water comes out the frothing spout until you click the single shot button. Nice, although my wife claims water is not hot enough for good tea extraction. You be the judge I guess. Overall a nice device. But I miss my Pavoni, which lasted over 20 years. Less complicated more hot steam. So this to me is a bit of a compromise but 3 cheers to Breville for making a small device that does work. Generally attractive and well constructed.
