Compact and flexible

Im not an expert barista but I love a good cup of third wave latte. Before purchasing this I have a krups Xp3200 for 5 years. I also have a Baratza Virtuso grinder. I got the Bambino Plus for the compact size.
The bad reviews below that says the automatic functions are not to their liking could have reprogrammed the length of the shot or control it manually (it's explained in the manual). The automatic milk froth does a very decent job. You can still use the frother manually which i love as I love the microbubbles! It is a very strong steam wand so you have to work fast.
I don't have a lot of counter space and this is perfect size since I already have my own grinder. Cleaning is also a breeze. No need to worry about milk tubes clogging like in automatic machines. It auto purge the wand after use.
The portafilter locking does take a few practice to get used to. It does require a good amount of force to turn (to get the right pressure for the pressurized basket). there's also no stopper once it's in the locked position, only marker on the outside. once you get used to the positioning, it's not rocket science. For those who prefer not doing anything at all, just go with the fully automatic machines.
The shots pulled is definitely hotter than the krups I used to have. Much closer to the temperature I would get in coffee shops! I don't have anything to complain and I love the machine so far!
For those who want to start playing with unpressurized portafilter baskets, you can also buy a unpressurized basket on Breville website! I'm waiting for it to restock to get one!

Perfect entry-level machine

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Bambino is perfect for espresso novices! It makes everything very easy, yet allows you flexibility when things are important. For example, the milk steaming is dead simple: you set the temperature and the foam level and hit a button, that's it. Yet if you wanted to, you can still milk steaming/foaming manually to dial in your lattes. Similarly, the portafilter has a dual-walled pressurized basket which gives you a consistent pull, but if you're an experienced coffee maker you can buy a non-pressurized basket that can produce more inconsistent pulls, but will help if you have a particular preference. Overall, the machine is wonderful for people who want to get into making espresso drinks, and is flexible enough that you can manually adjust settings as you learn more about coffee.
I would recommend this to a friend!

The build quality and functionality of this little guy is on point, and it doesn’t take up much counter space!
The espresso pours perfectly every time and the steamer provides the perfect amount of foam.
I repair commercial espresso machines for a living, most of them cost thousands, some 10s of thousands of dollars. The build quality of this little bambino is far superior to most of the machines that I work on daily. Highly recommend.

Decent machine but the factory settings are not correct. Buy a new handle and portafilter since the included double-walled ones are not very good. Takes some time to get the grind, dosage, tamp and amount of water correct in order to extract good espresso. Just be prepared for a significant time investment to get this machine to pull good shots.

Water leaks from inside the unit

I just received the Bambino Plus today and as some other purchaser reported water is leaking from inside the unit. Probably 4oz of water or more each time I try to run it. Far too expensive for this experience.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

So glad to have this machine! Makes amazing espresso likkety-split... enough manual features (or so I'm told) to satisfy experienced baristas while being simple enough for a newbie like me to consistently pull great shots. I own several other Breville appliances -- my water cooker is still going strong after 12 yrs, for instance -- so I'm pretty much sold on their build quality and long term price to value. Wanted something appropriately sized for NYC counter spaces and the bambino plus fits perfectly. Milk brother is awesome, too.

Absolute Best Espresso Machine Ever!

I bought the Bambino Plus after struggling with cheaper brand espresso machines for many years. This machine does everything and more. It is compact, attractive in the kitchen, simple to use, and serves up delicious espresso, lattes, and cappuccinos like no other espresso machine I have ever owned, and I have owned machines from 4 different brands. If you think making craft espresso, lattes and cappuccino is too time-consuming or will require lots of cleaning, think again. The Bambino Plus is easy to use, it brews espresso in just a few seconds after starting it up, and is a snap to clean. The best part for me, in addition to the amazing espresso taste, is the foam. Having a machine that produces awesome foam for lattes, cappuccinos, and dry cappuccinos is such a relief. It even steams almond milk. The milky froth lasts upwards of 20 minutes (no joke, I timed it) and it clings to the coffee mug. I highly recommend this espresso machine!
