Must do much research if purchasing this machine. Tamping, dosing, beans everything matters and will affect the quality of your shots. It is an easy machine to use however, preparing the shot still takes a lot of tweaking to get it right.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great machine, perfect if you like milk based drinks (like I do). Easy to use, small footprint, heats up fast. There’s a learning curve and I still pull a bad shot now and again but I’m getting it dialed in.
I’d like to see Breville offer this as a kit with a scale, WDT, and dosing funnel included (as I found out these are practically a requirement for consistency) - but since they don’t, I’d recommend buying these items at the same time you order your Bambino and grinder.
But I love my Bambino (or should I say “Amo il mio Bambino!”)

Our experiences shape our expectations - I've roasted my own coffee and used a lever (fully manual) espresso machine for years. The Bambino is about as different an experience as you can have - it's faster, more consistent, and doesn't require involvement or skill. But what a great tradeoff - you get a consistently great cup without time, attention, or effort It's literally like switching from a 50s sports car to a contemporary one.
And if you're new to espresso, know that you'll make better coffee every time than you could get in most coffee shops ... and you'll do it in less time than it takes to wait in line.

my first espresso machine - works well but sometimes difficult to master

I have been eyeing this espresso machine for a while and excited to purchase this into my home. You need a separate grinder (for whole beans) which I don't mind because I prefer to preserve the freshness of whole beans. Pros: The machine doesn't take up a lot of counter space, is easy to set up, easy to clean, sleek & beautiful. Cons: it takes a while to get used to the ground coffee proportion, there are 4 different filters, depending on what coffee you're using and it is a bit cumbersome to change them (but fine if you always just use the same serving and type of coffee grounds), the milk froth is the most difficult to master (it sometimes stops before it rises to the correct temp and may make splashes until you master it) this could be human error as well but I was hoping it would be fool-proof as I am just learning, lastly, you do need to empty the drain quite frequently and dust off the grounds frequently since there is manual set up involved before enjoying your coffee. Overall 4 stars for the quality of espresso/cappuccino but for the price of the automated milk froth, I was hoping there would be better mechanics to ensure the milk is consistently great in every cup

extremely bad experience

I have tried everything since Christmas to get an Americano out of this machine that taste as good as one from my 15 year old Krups IL Primo. I have read the manual, watched 30 tutorials online (only the 3rd party ones are any go, the Breville ones are show ponies only), changed the filter basket from double wall to single wall and back, used different grinds, different water, played with the tamping, etc. I use freshly roasted coffee from Peets in Berkeley, CA, and usually get great coffee from it. I know this is one of Breville's less expensive models, but for us it is a lot of money and to not be able to get a drinkable cup of coffee out of it is hard to take.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Milk boils over

Received this for Christmas. First latte was fine. After that the milk boiled over and made a mess. I even tried it with low foam, medium heat and minimum milk. The heat sensor is not working. Very disappointed I can’t use my Christmas gift.

Decent basic machine ruined by bad decision s

I’ve had the bambino for over a year now and it’s fine for a basic all in one espresso machine. It pulls a nice shot, but the automatic milk steamer is kind of pointless, even on the hottest setting the milk really doesn’t get warm enough, and the foam options are pretty much none or all the foam. The wand works fine as a manual milk steamer, except it’s extremely annoying to unclog (the clogging isn’t necessarily its fault, that part is inevitable) the real problem is the cleaning cycle, and the reason I’m writing a reviews two years after purchase. You cannot cancel or postpone the cleaning cycle after 200 cups, and unless you are keeping count, there’s no warning system. Once it’s on, it’s on, no using your machine until you do a half hour cleaning cycle. Which is extremely annoying if you’re running late, already used your extra time to descale the machine (a different cleaning process that CAN be postponed?), already out grounds in your porta filter and doesn’t have an extra one to use. Why can’t I just say “thanks, but I can’t clean you right now” so I can make a cup of coffee and clean it when I’m home from work and have time? Honestly, it would be 3 stars from me if it wasn’t for this cleaning thing. It’s just bad design and decision making, my next machine won’t be a Breville. Get something that doesn’t have the potential to ruin your morning at random.
