Portafilter Basket Issue
on July 3, 2019
Posted by: Eileen K.
The Bambino Plus has many great features. I upgraded my home espresso system with this model. The first machine I ordered did not allow for either the one or the two shot dual filter basket to seat deeply enough into the portafilter basket and required multiple attempts to rotate the basket into position to brew coffee. The coffee basket stuck inside the brewer 95% of the time. The foam wand cleaner tool was not in the box, either. With a replacement machine, I had the same problem with the machine requiring multiple tries to seat the basket in the brew head, and then requiring great force with both arms as well as angling the machine on the counter to rotate the portafilter basket into position to brew coffee. Breville support first suggested that the basket was overfilled with coffee. Given my explanation of the problem, this was unbelievably lame. I had given the machine over a month to "break in" and considered other possible causes of the issue, including my lack of strength or ergonomics of my counter top height. In addition, the machine comes with a tamper and a leveler for the coffee basket. I held on to the second machine and worked with it for a month thinking the dual filter baskets might seat into the gasket of the brewer over time. While the issue was less dramatic than the first experience, the portafilter still seemingly randomly either jammed into the brew head, unable to rotate into position, or rotated with great downward pressure on the unit from one arm and rotational pressure from the hand rotating the poratfilter basket into ALMOST the "Locked" position. I noticed in a you tube video that the demonstrator used two hands to get the coffee into position and that the coffee basket got stuck in the brewer, but not to the degree that I have experienced this. My coffee tastes great. The foamer produces great microfoam. I love the fact that it heats up quickly and has stainless steel baskets for the coffee and comes with a good tamper and foam pitcher.

Coffee ENVY from everyone who visits our place

We experience coffee envy every time we pass our friends and family another perfect brew. They can't believe it when they hear and see this little quiet machine at work. In fact, we measure every brew we buy out against this little Bambino and this little wonder wins every time. We've has this machine for 11 months. It i's used everyday without fail and it has never let us down. Reviews about holding the machine while you lock in and remove the head are spot on. You need to hold the machine in place, which is no big deal. Honestly this is NOT a deal breaker! Millions and millions times better than our first HUGE sized, under performing Breville machine, that had to be repaired 3 times in it's short life. This baby is so good we'll buy another for our unit. Can't live without our little Bambino! 5 STARS plus!!! Yum

3 weeks in so far great

I have been putting this to some heavy home use for about 3 weeks, 4-8 pulls a day. It makes a great coffee, just read the directions to fully understand the machine, they are not that long but some of the button combos could be confusing if you push the wrong two by mistake. Super easy once you understand the machine. I have not had problems with closing the portafilter if you make sure your filter basket is seated properly and there are no grounds where they should not be. Keep it clean and it goes in with seems like the right amount of muscle. I am enjoying this machine and it's drinks!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Awesome quality. Love everything about this machine. From the 3 second warm up to the 64 ounce water tank and auto shut off. Easily set up and working in minutes, was drinking my first cup of Espresso within 20 minutes of unpacking and in my cup. Can not wait to share the aromatic and delicious espresso with my family and friends.
I would recommend this to a friend!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ll be honest, I’m not a big espresso drinker. I bulk at paying an arm and a leg in the cutesy little shops. I hate waiting in long lines. I am a big coffee drinker. So even drinking espresso I am going to save a lot of money in the long run. I love that I am making these at home by myself, and of course friends who want to come over for an espresso. I recommend getting a coffee grinder to go with this. The start up is super fast, something I absolutely love. It comes with dual wall filter baskets, a frothing jug, a 54mm Razor, cleaning disk and tool, and a dosing cup. It is pretty compact at least to me. This is something I would definitely recommend. I love mine.

Life changing machine

I have spent so much money on Cappuccino and Lattes that finally decided to buy a espresso machine. It makes a great espresso and thick textured milk perfect for the caps. I gently have push the top when attaching the portafilter, this solves the issue.
