Great Design and Mechanics
on January 21, 2019

I really enjoyed building this set. Both 2018 Diner and this Corner Garage have provided a great build experience and look really nice.
With this new set, a lot of effort has gone into providing a cohesive architectural vocabulary throughout and it shows.
The mechanics are super - the garage opener is buttery smooth and the tow truck was a nice surprise. Similarly, a very unique approach to the bay windows left me pleasantly surprised.
Lots of use out of the (new) rounded 2x1. The new flower elements are really nice, and I also really liked the tree on the pavement - the build is more stable and looks fuller than the trees that have come before,
A very tricky corner space is handled very well overall. The vet's office is great. Some slight complaints with the studio apartment. I know this kind of cramped space is realistic, but the toilet in the kitchen really creeps me out. I wish the bathroom had been fleshed out a bit better.
The toy truck on the wall is a real shining moment. In theory it feels like it wouldn't work, but the build takes into consideration the actual construction of the transparent cheese piece, and that thicker edge really helps create the impression of the separate cab.
The set also provides an interesting look into the design process. There are a couple of places where you can see a compromise has been made. Not in quality, but in design/color etc. It doesn't bother me - real life requires compromises - why shield children from this?
Some fiddly detail work but not too much, and this is an expert build after all. Not too much repetition at all. When building, set 3 has 3 bags, set 4 has 4 bags, and set 5 has 5 bags - useful when pulling them out. Also, there are 80 grey 1x1 triangles and 2 grey cheese pieces, so watch out in set 6.
Another fantastic set from the Lego team. Thanks! I look forward to working it into my cityscape.

Before getting this modular building, I had only gotten the downtown diner, and to me, that’s a hard modular to top. However, this modular certainly surprised me. I love all the jokes with the signs (Especially the Indiana Jones one on the vet office sign) and the building techniques are amazing. The minifigures are mediocre, but I didn’t expect them to be that great, as modulars never have exclusive figures. My favorite features have to be the wall in the vet office and the hydraulic lift in the garage. My only complaint would be the price, as good as the set is, it’s a little pricey compare to the downtown diner. But overall, this is definitely tied with the downtown diner, and I’m hoping to get the police office soon.

This is a very nice modular and my favorite of the newer style. Can’t stop switching out the cars at the shop!

Okay, the fact that this has an Indiana Jones reference in it alone makes it fantastic, but boy, this got a lot of middling reviews, huh? I don't really know why, and as a result, I kind of automatically liked it a lot, like I took it under my wing. "Hey, set, don't listen to them, you rule! You're the most interactive out of all the sets, the garage door is so cool, and the car lift is a lot of fun, and you're sturdy as can be! Perhaps the sturdiest of the modular buildings! Chin up, champ!" Anyway. I ended up liking the set a lot, even if the first floor is just a little barren. I could add stuff to it, sure, but there should be a little bit more clutter. Car mechanics are anything but tidy and sparse. But the second and third floor are full of detail. The vet is terrific, I love the fish in the wall and the examining table. The waiting area is great, too! The apartment on the top floor is top notch. I just wish more modular buildings had a shower or even a bathtub but I get it, space is limited. The TV is probably my favorite part of the apartment, although the kitchen is lovely, too. And the little model truck! That's cute as can be. I love the rooftop area, always a good spot for a party. Great set. Very recommended!

Angelic angles

I bought this set for my 6 year old and I to build at the end of the school Christmas holidays. We love building the creator modular house and I am always amazed at the innovative techniques thought up by the designers at Lego.
When the set was announced I was intrigued by the angled facade. It did not disappoint. The techniques used to create the angled wall from square bricks, to get the amount of stability in the structure and to avoid unsightly gaps at the corners were nothing short of genius!
Overall, this fits in wonderfully with the rest of our street and I think it is great to see new artitectural styles being developed in the modular series.

Good, but not great.

In comparison to other regular size modulars, there's not a lot to it. Fewer fun extras less floor space and no full division between different sections. We're it a real building, you could wander between the garage, animal care centre and the apartment with no doors or walls to stop you. This set is also following the trend of each year there is less for more money. Less interesting features, less building, less satisfaction. If you're happy to wait a while til the price comes down, you'll get better value for your money.

I showed up at the Lego store 20 minutes early on January 1st, 2019 to purchase this set, and boy, was it worth it! When the pictures were first released, I was skeptical, but when I assembled it, I loved it. There are tons of great details and functional parts (Funny jokes too)! I am somewhat disappointed with the price, but why am I gonna complain when it will retire and hold its value, and maybe even plus some! Not sure which building to put this one next to yet, but I will figure it out! I would definitely recommend this set to all people, old and young! Happy new year, everyone, and happy building!
