So much fun!
on March 16, 2020

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I loved putting together the 1988 batmobile from lego. It was a lot of fun. My kids helped me with some of the build. It came with 26 bags, if you count the bags that were not numbered and had over 3000 pieces. Now if you were to have little kids putting this together, you might want to oversee them. I had very few pieces left over, and none of them big pieces. All total it took me about 12 hours to put together. It even has a swivel pedestal that you can put the car on. Very cool. There was only one messed up piece and that was on the back. They sent me two of the same piece instead of opposite pieces. BUT I love legos and this was a very smooth build. I will definately be getting bigger projects.

Gorgeous, Elegant, Super detailed but Fragile
on April 29, 2021

Pros: This is a gorgeous set, it represents a pretty decent challenge and it definitely is a must have for any batman fan, the attention to detail is mind blowing, you will feel like a kid and have tons of fun building this. The interactive parts once built are also awesome, I really love the roof can slide in comparison with the batwing where you need to detach it. This is an awesome addition to your collectibles and it will catch everyone's eyes wherever you put it for display.
Cons: This is a build you want to touch once, wisely choosing a place where to display it and do not interact with it often. Its is fragile and it does not even roll straight because it is heavy. This is definitely not a build like other cars that you can play with it, it does not feel strong, it feels fragile. So if your expectations are to build it once and secure a safe prime place for display, then your expectations will be met and you will be a super happy Batmobile owner!

Looks beautiful, but too fragile
on March 13, 2020

First the positive. This car looks absolutely amazing once built. The build is split into a LOT of stages with over 20 bags so it's quite easy to find the parts as you are never dealing with too many at once.
Now for the bad. There's too many places where pieces are barely holding on. There are lots of places where only one or two studs are holding significant pieces. You only need to look at this build wrong and a piece falls off. Which is a real shame as my daughter really wanted to play with it after I was done. Nearly every person who has touched it has accidentally knocked a section off.

Hello there,

Thanks for your review. I'm sorry to hear that you've experienced some frustration with the set.

We always test and retest our toys to make sure that they’ll hold up to play when they’re built exactly as shown in the instructions. If something ever seems like it's not very sturdy, the best thing to do is double-check your build. Sometimes there may be a piece just a little off from where it should be, which can cause instability. You’ll also want to make sure that all the pieces are pressed tightly together.

If you'd like a hand troubleshooting the build, or if you find that any pieces aren't holding together as they should, feel free to give us a shout at LEGO.build/Service-BV.

TERRIBLE DIRECTIONS!
on December 26, 2019
Posted by: Bahodson
I bought this for my husband for Christmas and he was very excited about it! He has since started the process of building it and has discovered it has many flaws with packaging/directions! He has had to open 4 bags (bags 1, 2 and two unmarked bags) just to get through the directions for the first bag! Now my lighthearted Christmas present has turned into a nightmare! He is frustrated and grumpy! Not what I wanted our Christmas to be. No thanks LEGO! Too expensive for this level of frustration!

Thanks for your review. We're sorry to hear your husband's had a frustrating time with the set.

To complete the #1 stage of the build, he will need to open the bag marked 1, plus the two clear bags. (You'll often find the set's very largest parts in unmarked bags.) Bag #2 shouldn't be necessary at this point, as those parts are for later in the build.

If you're finding he doesn't have all the pieces he needs in bag #1, head over to LEGO.build/BricksPieces to request replacements.

Wrong Piece
on May 16, 2020

First of all, I have been building the set for about a week off and on for about an hour or so at a time and I am absolutely loving the way it is coming out. It looks menacing and beautiful at the same time. But, I have reached bag 20 and one of the pieces that goes on the back of the car around the tires is the opposite direction of what I need and now a little section of the back is empty as it looks very wrong if I put the section on without the missing piece. I have never had this happen and this slightly frustrated me especially since I am so close to the end.

That's definitely not right! It's super easy to request a replacement piece, though. Head to LEGO.build/BricksPieces-BV to get started.

Great Looking But Fragile
on May 10, 2020

Really good looking Batmobile and a fun build, but fragile. Just picking it up and setting it down somewhere else, parts fall off. Where you put your hands/fingers to pick it up can knock pieces off. I double-checked the pieces that fell off to ensure I had assembled correctly which I did.
Mostly the front end by the Turbine and the exhaust section are pretty fragile. Recommend picking it up from the sides and not the front and rear.
I was very unhappy with this I wound up taking the front and rear apart and glueing it together.
Since most of my Lego kits are static and not played with, it's not a huge deal.
Overall I'd recommend this kit as it's beautiful.

So Frustrating!!!
on February 26, 2020

Being a lego fan, I've finally met my challenge, for bag #4, I'm having a problem with trying to put the top cover for the right front wheel, cause you have a long lego sticking out like a sore thump! I have a tremor and this makes it really hard and less fun. What am I doing wrong?

Hmm...if a part's in the way, that could be a sign that something's a little off earlier in your build. If a piece isn't quite where it should be, things won't line up just right. Rebuilding the section with that sticking-out part should do the trick, but if you need a hand troubleshooting the build, you can always get in touch at LEGO.com/Service.

Batmobile 1989

This was an easy build. If you make a mistake somewhere its easy enough to go back and fix your error. Accurate enough depiction of the car.
Pros:
-Accurate depiction
-Motorized Functions (Manual)
-Heavy. Wont move on your shelf without stand
Cons:
-Missing 2×6 light grey block for plaque
-Heavy. Stand hardly supports vehicle when swiveling around. Hubs probably will not hold vehicle if played with.
-Turbine in the front should have a swiveling internal fan that turns
-Steering column will break of if you turn the wheel with the tires on the ground.
-Pin marks from moulding blocks on outside body parts.
-I WAS MISSING PARTS!!!
In conclusion, this is a good set that shouldnt be played with. Build, set, and leave it alone. Could have been better engineered. If you want a better set, spend the extra money, and buy the Bugati. That thing is awesome. Engineering, fit and finish is perfect.
The best LEGO set for the money is the Saturn V. I have 2 of those and will be setting up a diaroma.
Did I say I was missing parts?!?!

Oh no! It’s very rare for a LEGO® set to be missing pieces. Usually you’ll find them stuck in the packaging, used in place of a similar piece, or hiding somewhere near your building area.

If you’ve checked all over and the parts haven't appeared, don’t worry! It’s super easy to request replacements. Just go to LEGO.com/BricksPieces to get started.
