1989 Batmobile

The batmobile does the film justice. Looks great and had a lot of detail. It is very dense and heavy with a lot of intricate parts on the inside and some areas of the set were quite challenging to build. Also there were some parts that were very fragile and delicate. They kept falling off and because some of them were difficult to put back together I was forced to take chunks of it apart to re-assemble them again. Other than that I would highly recommend this for anybody who’s a Batman fan.

Best LEGO Batmobile out there

As a car enthusiast, and someone who has built a few other LEGO cars previously, when I heard about this particular Batmobile, I got super excited to purchase it. Since this era of Batmobile was my favorite as a kid, this was a no-brainer in terms of getting it. The build wasn't difficult; there are just a LOT of parts! The instructions were easy enough (once you figure out where to get some of the pieces that are NOT in the labeled bags), so building it was relatively a breeze. You're in for a real treat once you do finish this, because the sheer size of this thing is amazing. I saw the completed version at the LEGO store prior to building it, so I knew how big it was going to be, but it's a lot different when you have it in your hands. Overall I am pleased with it, and glad I bought it when they were offering the mini Batmobile as a freebie, as I gave it to my kid to display in his room (and he loves it).

Perfect

Having done several UCS sets, this one is a close second favorite, second only to the Falcon. Great build, good instructions, incredible finished product. The only drawback is the same cabin piece that just doesn’t seem to fit with any of the other parts as far as texture, but that’s an easy fix. I did find myself using latex gloves when using the gloss finish pieces to avoid fingerprints, but they still found a way onto the parts. I used a microfiber cloth to clean it up but it still does not have that original shine to it. Can the LEGO experts give any advice on how to get it clean and fingerprint clean without ruining the plastic? I’m sure there are more then a few LEGO maniacs who would like to know.
And thank you again for the best Batmobile EVER.

A Great Build!

As a childhood fan of this Batmobile, this was a blast to build. Lots of interesting and clever ways to connect and structurally solidify this model as it was getting built. Love the size and scale of the final product.
I did find that there were a few instances where the visual instructions weren’t super clear, due to how the pieces were occluded in the renderings. It sometimes took some guesswork to make sure I was putting a piece in the right spot, only to find out a few steps later that I was wrong. I think LEGO could do a better job of providing better angles for piece installation for certain instances where their typical three-quarter view isn’t prescriptive enough. But that’s a small pain in an otherwise really fun experience.

Amazing Experience
on December 7, 2020

I was gifted the Batmobile to complete the ensemble of Lego Batman sets from the 1989 movie. I will say, while the Batwing was an enjoyable experience to build, I am glad I did it first. The Batmobile is a step up and a more exciting build throughout the process.
There was plenty of complexity and challenge to keep me interested. In fact, I found myself anticipating more and more as I tackled each bag and the vehicle began to take its completed state. The final results are a hefty, but beautiful replication of the original.
The display stand is a nice touch, as it give a nice, easy, way to display the model. I am also not sure if the tires can withstand the weight without developing flat spots over time.
I highly recommend both 1989 Batman sets, though would recommend tackling the Batwing first.

The perfect leisure activity during the lockdown. Great fun to build and an awesome looking model. Sad to put the last piece on as I didn't want it to end!

Probably the best set I've ever owned
on December 25, 2019

As the title suggests, I think this has taken the spot as the best set I've ever owned. Now, let me be clear, this is not a playset. It has three "play"-features: the pop-up machine guns, opening cockpit, and workable steering. But this is not a set for one who wants to play with it (that's what the special mini version is for!). This is a set at which to marvel. The Tim Burton-era Batmobile is iconic, but more than that it is a spectacle of complex shapes. What is amazing is now well so many of those shapes and contours are recreated in this set. It certainly seems that the shapes necessitated the scale of this beast, and thus the parts count and price. But, all throughout the build I was amazed at how different aspects of the Batmobile design were achieved. There are some amazing people working to design LEGO sets! At the end of the day, this is just a spectacular set, and for me an excellent Christmas gift.
Thanks to LEGO for giving us this amazing set!
