Cool Display Set
on November 28, 2021
Posted by: BigLegoBuilder
I see a lot of people had problems keeping the set intact while building or just following the instructions. I’ve been building for 15+ years and have never had parts or pieces of a set coming apart. I’ve had my Star Destroyer on dislpay since they came out two years ago and nothing has come loose from it. No I don’t use super glue. Maybe some people aren’t firmly putting pieces and plates together? I don’t know. Also, this is a UCS set. To me, these sets are for display only, so to hear people complain about the playability is just stupid. Cloud City and Mos Eisley Cantina are Master Builder Series so they don’t count. I would only recommend this set to those with patience, careful understanding of Lego instructions, and experience with UCS sets. Do not buy this for your nine year old because they think they can build it. From what I’ve read and heard, they all get frustrated and drag their parents into helping them build it only for the parents to become frustrated and complain about the set. This isn’t the case for all kids under 18 but I’ve seen it happen before with nieces, nephews, brothers, sisters, and even just my friend’s younger siblings. The boxes say 18+ for a reason.

Very Enjoyable

I bought this several years ago and finally got around to working on it. I am about 2/3s done and am loving it. I wish I had another one to build afterwards (and the space for it - ha). It has been very enjoyable. I hope the Falcon is as much fun.

Is it worth it? Absolutely

The Price per kilo is pretty much the same as the Falcons and when you’re building it, you’ll realize why it’s worth the high price tag.
It might be “just” a remake but that’s goes the same for the falcon.
The new ISD improves upon the original in every way. More detail, less panel gaps, more proportionally accurate and most importantly imo, it’s more stable structurally so the bowing problem is non existent.
As for the interior argument, and as someone who owns and built this set, I don’t see where they could have added one without compromising its backbone.
And the reason the falcon has an interior in the first place is because it has so many famous and iconic scenes that took place in it. Coupled with the fact that the build plane/ area is mostly flat and parallel to the ground so the interior is much easier to implement. That cannot be said with the UCS ISD as the building plane/ technique is completely different and the technic backbone makes it impossible to add one in the first place with going through serious design changes.
I think LEGO made the right call to have quality over quantity of features because I’ll rather have no bowing than a interior.

Loved every minute!

Bought this set after thinking about it for a while. Built lots of legos when I was younger but nothing like to this scale. I don’t regret this purchase for a second. The build itself took me about 20 hours, doing 1 “numbered bag” a night to extend the experience. This is a pretty technician build and not for younger kids without an adult or experienced builder around. Be warned though, this set is HUGE and pretty heavy when complete. Many one star reviews stated about how fragile it is and pieces popping off out of nowhere, I didn’t experience any of that. All the pieces fit very tightly, but good pressure is recommended on the larger panels for a good fit. Buy this set! Will be getting the UCS Falcon next!

WOW

Let me just say I was extremely hesitant to buy this product when I first saw it. But I figured what the heck. Of course when I bought it, it wasn't double points (figures right?) but wow is this thing amazing. The size is incredible. It was such a fun build and I enjoyed every bag of it, if you are a fan of Star Wars I would recommend. I had an extra Darth Vader figure that I placed on the display stand (it is his ship after all) and I'm looking at getting a micro-millennium falcon that I will place on the back like in episode 5 I believe. Overall it is a great build and it looks amazing being displayed!

Missing pieces

Great set so far but can not complete because of so many missing pieces, top it off with an already opened bag in one of the individual boxes.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Oh no! Missing pieces are rare so it's very disappointing when they happen. We'd like to have a closer look and gather some information to make sure this doesn't happen again. Please get in touch at: LEGO.build/Service-BV so we can restore your build to full glory!

If you buy it, you will see the value

I just bought this set yesterday and started building last night. It's great fun and I see how much effort they put into this design. The build differs a lot from the 2002 set, and it is much more stable than the old one. A lot of complaints are coming from reviewers who have not even bought the set (and they complain that their review got removed because the set is not even available...). It's possible that they don't see how much it costs for LEGO to actually design and prepare the set. The printing of the instruction book is amazing, and packaging/weight/size of this new set is definitely comparable with those of UCS Millenium falcon. For those who complain about the price, if you are truly looking at the price/pieces, why not look at price/stud or price/weight? And I would say, designing this set can be more challenging than any of the other UCS sets. I agree that lego could've put more mini-figures, but personally I care more about the architecture and skills I could learn from building the set... Adding more figures improves the value of collecting this set, but not really the cost of making the set. For me, I'd definitely say this set is well designed, fun to build, and worth the price.
