Beautiful

The Ship in a Bottle was a beautiful piece to build. The sails took a bit of time get just right to be able to fit all three mast on the deck. The bottle itself was straight forward when it came to the neck it took a moment or two to get it to fix.
Enjoyed the tipping of the bottle to get the little bits of blue to move across the bottom.

Lack of quality control.

It is very beautiful model and it was a pleasure to build, but there are some quality issues:
1) The most part of transparent details 4215618 in my set are slightly yellowish. It does not match the other parts of the bottle.
2) The ship and the bottle on all official photos of this set are turned right, but in the manual they are turned left. It is not a critical problem of course, but a lack of perfection.
3)The bottom of the bottle is difficult and beautiful element, but some construction decisions looks strange. Steps 21 & 31 in manual for example. Why you are using 2*3000840 instead of 1* 4167842? It could be a little beat more rigid, if you did vice versa.
This is not the quality you are expecting from LEGO.

I'm very sorry to hear that your not happy with your new Ship in a Bottle set. The beauty of this set is you can display it any way you want, right or left there is no incorrect way. Step 21 & 31 was deliberetly done by the designers. Having a 1x1 brick there allows for more stability later in the build. The feedback you gave is great and I'd be happy to pass that along to our designers. In regards to the parts you have that are discolored, we can help with that. Please visit our replacment parts service 'Bricks & Pieces'. Check this out at www.LEGO.com/service.

Please display me!

This has got to be one of the coolest things Lego has done in awhile or maybe even ever. With an almost 1:1 scale for size the bottle alone is really cool and if you ask me the star attraction. Getting a huge number of translucent pieces is always fun but once you finish the bottle you just stop and appreciate how close it looks to an actual bottle. During building however you will need extreme patience, in order to create a purposely non-see through bottom like most bottles, you will be assembling tons of 1x1 and 2x2 plates that have a flimsy build up until you finish the actual bottle itself that can get very frustrating during assembly, but don’t let it frustrate you, the end product is worth it I promise. The details and building techniques that went into this are clever and at some points very simple and lead to a refreshingly challenging build that has a look unlike anything you’ve seen, if you or a person you know are a Lego enthusiast and nautical enthusiast this is a must buy set that proudly displays itself wherever you may place it. Oh and did I mention this set has one of the funniest instructions I’ve seen in a Lego booklet. It instructs you to literally dump the 284!!! Translucent blue studs into the bottle which give the end product a really nice look. If you like to display Lego models this is the one for you!

Interesting set

I really enjoyed building this set. Building the bottom on the bottle was intriguing. The visual effect is excellent with this set. When I first saw this set I thought it was perfect to go along with the Old Fishing Store Set. I have both in my office. I do agree with other reviews that the ship is small, but I can understand why; the size of the bottle in proportion to the ship.
I have one complaint about this set. It is not very sturdy. In my opinion, this set is not intended to be played with, unless you take the ship out of the bottle. Moving the set requires rebuilding the set (personal experience - multiple rebuilds). The neck of the bottle becomes detached very easily.

I visited the Lego store just to browse. As I walked out this set caught my eye and I immediately bought it. There was only 2 left and I managed to buy 1 of them. It was fun putting it together and it looks great on my table in my man cave.

Unique!

Really neat set. Bought it to put on the fireplace mantle. My 12-year old son built the ship that goes inside the bottle. I built the bottle. Working with so many clear pieces proved challenging. Definitely a set for a seasoned Lego fan. Must use little “wiggles” and gentle pushing to get some pieces together as some parts are fragile and crumble apart if using too much force. I really, really like this piece and highly recommend.
