Nautical and whimsical

I like unique LEGO sets and this one is definitely unique; you build the clever little ship then you build the bottle from the bottom up and around the ship. Aligning all the little clear 1x1 slices takes patience but it’s totally worth it. I love the little touches that really make you think it’s a real ship in a bottle: the “wax” seal on the bottle, the “water” in the bottle, the shape of the bottle and the stopper, and so on. And there’s a bonus when you complete the stand; it has a spinning compass - too fun!

I love LEGO, and I’ve always wanted to try building a ship in a bottle...this is the perfect mashup! It really is a great set. It’s got some challenges, but nothing too advanced. It will look awesome as a display and it’s already a conversation piece. This is not a set with playability, but it does inspire creativity. *I don’t speed build, so don’t concentrate on the build time. :)

Ship in a Bottle

brown pieces holding masts and flags have broken or have identified fractures (pre-break).
I have abandoned the project & requested a refund.
First time I have experienced this -- I am surpriesed and dissatisfied with this particular product.

Oh no! That's really unusual, and I'm sorry to hear that you've had this experience. In the future, if a piece breaks during normal use, we're happy to send out replacements. You can request them at LEGO.com/Service; just choose the "Bricks & Pieces" option to get started.

Don't see how pouring in pieces is buiding anythin

I don't see pouring Lego's as the same as building something. I bought this set opened it up and was disappointed. The pieces are big and almost 300 of it is water you just pour in not even clip it to anything. Kind of takes building out of it doesn't it?! Ended up returning it. Because almost a third of it you don't build. Did however build the ship and it was a little on the generic side.

Beautiful

The Ship in a Bottle was a beautiful piece to build. The sails took a bit of time get just right to be able to fit all three mast on the deck. The bottle itself was straight forward when it came to the neck it took a moment or two to get it to fix.
Enjoyed the tipping of the bottle to get the little bits of blue to move across the bottom.

Not a bad set at all

There's some fluff pieces, but not many. Personally, I think the bottle has too many pieces in it, and the "clarity" of the bottle really suffers. There are almost no larger pieces in this set. The bottle contains scores of 2x1x1/3 pieces that should very well have been 6x1x1/3 pieces both for strength and clarity. The biggest disappointment here is the bottle, as I've mentioned. Either new elements should have been introduced, or larger elements used. The price is high for this model, most likely due to the inflated piece count the water studs bring. The stopper design for the bottle really is stellar, and saves the bottle from being complete chaos. The ship itself is very good for the scale represented. It scales at a decent ratio to the bottle. Slightly longer, still with three masts, but with 4 cannons per side would have been ideal. The base really brings this model home. The built in "compass" feature under the bottle is nothing short of great, I only wish it were a more prominent part of the final display. Overall, I'm proud to own this one, but the urge to pick some bricks and modify the bottle is going to be hard to fight. I certainly hope for more of these great display builds in the future.

got this as a gift, would not have bought it for myself. But i thought i would give it a try. Was painful to build lots of tiny parts that didn't really work together well. Finished product is very fragile.

Thanks for your review. I'm sorry to hear that you've experienced some frustration with the set.
If pieces aren't fitting together properly or your set doesn't seem very sturdy, that could be a sign that something's a little off in your build. The best thing to do is a little bit of reassembly, making sure that every piece is in the exact right spot and that everything is pressed tightly together.
If you need a hand troubleshooting the build, you can always get in touch at LEGO.com/Service.
