Very Impressive

This thing is amazing. I have had dishwashers all of my life and have never had one that I didn't have to prewash all of my dishes before loading them. For the price, it can not be beat. This thing cleans anything I throw at it including dried, baked on food with NO NEED to rinse or scrub the dishes before loading. Not only does it do a fantastic job cleaning the dishes, it does so quite quietly compared to the other dishwashers I have had.
If you are looking for a good dishwasher without a huge price tag, this is the way to go.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We didn't originally intend to purchase this particular product but SO glad we did! It not only looks classy from the outside, it's SO quiet and our dishes come out amazing! We'll be starting our search for a refrigerator next and will most certainly be looking for the GE brand.

What an outstanding dishwasher!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am so pleased with purchasing this dishwasher! There are many ways to load the dishes and I love that the silverware caddies are not in the racks. This dishwasher is so quiet that you can actually have a conversation in the kitchen while the machine is running. Thank you GE!

Racks are cheaply made and poorly designed.

First I would like to say that the machine itself works fine and cleans dishes well, except for a couple of issues that have to do with the racks.
Second I would like to say that I thought I had put a lot of research into this purchase, and had even taken a box of my dishes to the store to make sure they would fit nicely. I made the mistake of taking large items to make sure there was room for them, but not taking small items. So my main complaint with this dishwasher is that it is not user friendly as far as loading items. More on this later.
I am happy with the cycle options and how the dishwasher works, except for the length of time it takes to run a load and that it lacks a quick rinse cycle. That would be helpful because due to the placement of the silverware rack, sometimes the soap dispenser cup doesn't open all the way, and half the soap is left in the cup. Then there is un-rinsed soap left on all the dishes. Without a quick rinse, I am forced to re-run the dishwasher on the light cycle, and I feel it is a waste of time, water and electricity. (And even the light cycle takes a very long time.) But the soap dispenser is more of a silverware rack placement flaw then a cleaning problem. The manual tells you not to place tall items in front of the dispenser door, but apparently "tall" is relative, and even less tall items can block it if you aren't careful.
Other problems with the silverware baskets are the flimsy way they are attached to the racks and the large size "mesh" they are made of. Both the top and bottom rack have a silverware basket attached to the front of them. But the hooks that hold them on are very small, and we have had to learn not to pull on the baskets when rolling the racks forward. They pull right off. It's quite annoying, because they have a pull handle on them, and it is more intuitive to pull that handle than to reach in farther and pull the actual rack. I'm sure that with training and repeated basket falling, we will learn not to automatically reach for the handle.
I mentioned mesh on the silverware baskets. For some reason, they felt having wide horizontal bars was a good idea. But they make great slots for your forks and spoons to slide right through and fall to the bottom when you are dropping them in. If they don't fall all the way through, then they just get stuck and jam up. I've never had this problem in the past with baskets whose "mesh" was just small squares. But hey, this way looks more stylish, so who cares if it's inconvenient and troublesome.
Now on to my main complaint about this dishwasher. The tines in the racks are spaced too far apart. And the wires that make up the "floor" of the bottom rack are too far apart. That's not a problem for big items, but I have found that there are very few places where I can load my small items. And I wish I had thought to bring small items along when I tested models in the store.
In the top rack, when I place small saucers between the tines, the "floor" of the rack does not hold them in place and they roll to the side and leave the tine area. In the bottom rack, there is one front row of tines where I can place small saucers, but there is a lot of competition for that row.
In the bottom rack, the row of tines on the back half is so far apart, that I can only fit large plates in a row there. Or I can put large pots and bowls. But for medium pots, plates and bowls, they roll all around until I have placed in enough items so that the items themselves hold each other still. Forget about putting anything small there, because the wide spaces of the floor wires allow small things to fall part way through. Then they tilt and rattle.
The net result of all this inconvenience is that I run out of places where small things can fit, so I have to leave a stack of the dirty small dishes out for the next load. And if I don't happen to have enough large items, then I have to run a load where half of the bottom rack is empty! How frustrating is that, to have things that won't fit in, yet still have huge empty spaces. I'm washing air, while half my dishes have to wait hours and hours until the next load.
At first I thought that it was just myself being too picky, and being unused to the new dishwasher. I thought that if I gave it a few months, I would get used to the quirks of where things fit and don't fit, and work out a more efficient way to load the dishes. But after working with it, I now believe that the fault lies with the spacing of the tines and wires. And that is something you just can't always find out when doing on line research and examining many models in stores.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

GE Dishwasher

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I think this dishwasher is great. I was going to buy one that was twice the price, but it didn't fit under my counter, so I chose this one. I am glad I did. It is quiet and it cleans well. With the wash temp boost on it can take off peanut butter on knives. My old dishwasher couldn't do this, always had to rewash by had, so this is a big deal to me. I like the way it looks. Here's hoping it lasts for many years! I did have a problem in the beginning of my dishes being wet when it was done with the dry cycle. Found out the problem was that my water temp needed to be higher. I turned it up to 125 and now they are completely dry, except for a few cups that trap water. So make sure your water temp is above 120 or the same thing will happen to you.

Dishes get clean without pre-washing
on April 25, 2013

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This dishwasher has worked well for the most part. I just rinse and scrape the big stuff off of the dishes. Occasionally an item doesn't get clean, probably because something is being blocked. My dishes and glasses don't fit as well as the pictures in the user's manual show for loading, but I am finding other ways to load it. What I really don't like about it is that it runs for about two-and-a-half hours whether I do light load, normal, heavy or auto sense. That is a long time. The dishes also are not completely dry, but dry quickly once I open the door.
I would recommend this to a friend!
