[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The system is pretty fast and is streamlined. The one negative thing is that the wifi card seems to be exceptionally poor at reception. I can go about 30 feet further from my access point with all the other laptops I have but this was loses connectivity even when 20 feet from the access point.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Gen 8 is my third Lenovo X1 Carbon, and they just keep getting better. I was previously a Sony laptop user, but have to say that the Lenovo is a far superior machine. The Gen 8 is lightning fast and continues to be super light for traveling. My only (small) gripe would be the power on/off switch has moved to the side and it not easy to operate without using your finger nail to press it in.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This laptop has the i7 processor and came with the 16GB memory, which serves my needs quite well.
The Gen 9 just got announced and uses the next generation (lower heat profile) Intel processors, but charge a premium.
I have been using ThinkPads for a long time, so this is a natural evolution. I haven't looked at the next generation, but this generation has a nice set of standard (USB-A and HDMI) ports as well as the fast USB-C.
The PC can handle two 3840x2160 monitors without daisy chaining them (need at least one adapter), and then also displays its main (laptop) screen at 1920x1080.
The processor is fast (faster than my previous one) in various applications that used to bog memory and threads, such as Lightroom, Corel, PS, etc. I am happy with the i7 in this sense.
There are different configurations out there, and different generations. This is definitely higher end, and that is very noticeable in usage.
PC did already reboot twice with an (blue screen) error, so I am keeping an eye out for that, and it completely froze once. (I had to use the 'hard reset' button). This did only happen once to one prior model.
As to the extra heat versus the i5 and the Gen 9? It is very well managed, the fan remains usually off, and when on it is fairly quiet. It is definitely better than I expected.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It worth every dollar spend, it’s a powerful, efficient machine, ultralight and with a great style.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am completely satisfied with my ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 8! It operates smoothly with my three monitors with no issues whatsoever! It's amazingly fast, reliable and dependable. I would purchase it again.
