[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love the keyboard it is so easy to type, I love the microphone button, the battery settings.. everything on this laptop is awesome and so updated with so many futuristic features you would need in a laptop. The only thing I would of like is a touch screen.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This laptop is very light and functional. While the upgrades from the 7th generation aren't major, it is still a high quality laptop that I am enjoying very much so far. Excellent GNU/Linux compatibility (currently running Arch).
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I upgraded from an older version of the thinkpad. I am mostly pleased with this new version. I like the thin screen margins, the lightness, and the texture of the shell. The touchscreen works well as well, which was a bit of an issue in my older one. The one thing that is not as good is the fingerprint reader. It doesn't recognize my print as reliably as the older version despite my reloading the print.
Overall: good purchase for school work. Simple, portable, aesthetic.
I would recommend this to a friend!

ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 7 is a HUGE disappointment

This review comes after owning a Gen 7 for 11 months. Pros: lightweight, fast boot; wonderful UHD display. Cons: near-zero battery life; random cursor movement; non-responsive keyboard.
In the first month I love the laptop. It is very lightweight, boots incredibly fast, and has a killer display. However, after 11 months of ownership I hate this laptop. Battery life has degraded from an initial 6 hours to now less than 45 minutes. The battery drains so quickly that this once travel laptop is now useless for travel, requiring it to be plugged constantly.
Second and equally important, there is some sort of firmware/hardware bug that causes the cursor to randomly travel quickly in any direction. Whether using the eraser-head or the track-pad and in any app, the cursor will suddenly and quickly move to an each of the screen as if pulled by some mysterious force. It is particularly maddening when you are in the process of pointing or drawing or selecting. The only solution is to actually flex the laptop case in order to regain control of the cursor.
I have owned and loved ThinkPads for many many years. This is the first one I have truly HATED. I highly recommend you avoid this product.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Love the speed and screen clarity. The keyboard design is an adjustment over the Yoga 2 Pro keyboard. I'm also sad that I didn't spend the extra money to keep a touch screen. The only thing I dislike--and it makes me not ever want to purchase a ThinkPad again, is the spacebar is squeaky. Actually, the whole keyboard feels cheap, compared to my Yoga 2 Pro. Only time will tell if this model is as robust as they claim. I got rid of my Yoga because the hinges continually failed and it lost screws, repeatedly.
