Shuts Down Constantly and Won't Restart

This laptop is only a year old and was very expensive. At first I liked it, it's very fast and easy to use. However, for the past 6 months, instead of going to sleep or hibernating, it shuts all the way and closes all open programs. About 50% of the time after this happens I cannot restart it by pressing the power button but instead have to do a hard reset on the bottom of the unit. This is a known problem (see the message boards, it's everywhere) yet Lenovo contends it's a software issue, not a hardware issue. Well, that may be but it must the software that comes installed on the product because this problem started before I installed any additional software. I can't recommend a computer that costs this much and has a known problem like this, it's terrible for productivity and has caused me to lose work.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
