[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchased this for work and it does a good job. The camera is sharp and clear, the graphics are good enough for work, the speed is good and I haven't had any major issues.
I use an IBM docking station so that I can use a bigger monitor as well as an HD webcam. The only challenge has been trying to wake my computer after it goes to sleep overnight on the docking station. Until I disabled the sleep function I was stuck having to force shut down the laptop. But that's all sorted now.

I bought the 8th gen X1 Carbon to replace my 1st Gen X1 Carbon back in July. After several months of use, I have nothing but good things to say.
It's fast, light and the keyboard is an absolute dream to type on. ThinkPads have historically had the best laptop keyboards and this one is no exception.
As an old-school network engineer, I also have to give major props to the ThinkPad team for including a proper NIC port. I know people will complain that it is a proprietary network port, but this is a case where it was done properly. A standard RJ-45 port will not fit and rather than going with one that folds/unfolds (which WILL eventually break), they instead used a custom NIC port that fits the laptops form factor.
It's things like this that keep me coming back to ThinkPad.
I know networking over USB works 1000% better than it did 20 years ago, but I still prefer a dedicated NIC port rather than going through USB. Plus the adapter is not more expensive than their USB to RJ-45 adapter, so to me it's a wash.
