[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've had the 6th gen x1carbon at work for a couple years & simply loved it. Was a no-brainer to choose it when replacing my personal laptop as well in Dec2020. No complaints with latest purchase so far!! System specs below for reference.
Configuration Details
● Processor: 10th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-10510U Processor (1.80 GHz, up to 4.90 GHz with Turbo Boost, 4 Cores, 8 Threads, 8 MB Cache)
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As I was switching from a MacBook Pro and wanted to ensure adequate performance for daily business operations, I can honestly say the carbon X1 is hands down a phenomenal piece of equipment. Doesn’t drop a beat from daily business work, to even a bit of gaming. Highly recommend this computer!!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great product! I mainly purchased it for photo editing and programming for my Cricut. My husband uses it for programming on Fusion 360 and works great. I wanted a good computer that will last long. Definitely worth the price for what you’re getting.
I wanted a stable and reliable Linux laptop. I ordered the ThinkPad X1Carbon Gen 8 with Linux (Ubuntu option, everything else standard). I turn it on, it enters/shows a "System Configuration" window, asks 5 ir 6 questions (language pref., default wifi connection, time zone, acct passwords and computer name, whether to create OS backuo now. Then it says its "retrieving" a bunch of files (about 450 MB I think). Then it experiences/reports a fatal error while "installing packages"...with more possible causes listed than I can repeat here. It goes to Desktop. Next, it wants to update "everything". I let. When it's done, i quickly try out one desktop app (Firefox) to make sure it works (it does) and try to shut/power down. The computer gives me a black screen with 11 lines of errors and hangs. I have to use the tiny Emergency Reset hole button on the underside to get it to turn off. Now it gives me black screen error messages at startup so quickly that i cant read them. NOT impressed, happy, or at all inclined to recommend Lenovo.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Some years ago I bought a Lenovo X1 carbon 5th generation. It's been great. So when the time to update it arrived I had no doubts about the choice: a new X1 carbon. This time 8th generation.
It's too early for a definite evaluation but I'm experiencing many more troblues than expected. Many times the external monitor (connected via HDMI) is not detected and I have to restart the laptop to detect it. Also the battery runs low more quickly than expected. Perhaps it need some more days to to become fully operative!
