Great for deep frying

Even though this pan is a wok, I find it to be a terrific deep fryer. The sides are high enough to heat up a quart of oil which means I can use it for homemade donuts, mozzarella sticks, chicken wings, and any and every item needed for football season.
The cast iron keeps the heat at an even temperature, which prevents greasy and soggy fried foods. The size is perfect for batch frying, and comes with a great rack to set the fried food on to let drain back in the pain.
Loves this pan, and also a great wok.

Everything sticks!

I’ve had this wok for about a year now. The color beautiful and the shape so great for many different things. I came to this site to read the reviews because every time I’ve used it, no matter what I’m cooking, the food sticks to it. I came here hoping to find a solution or to see if maybe it was defective but I see from the reviews, I am

The black matte enamel surface is not non-stick. Using oil will prevent most sticking, yet there still may be sticking which helps to brown, braise, and reduce your meals better. Over time your Staub pot will naturally create a non-stick surface on the bottom
So, although it does not need to be seasoned, we recommend that you do; over time you will have a smoother, less sticky surface.
But for actual cooking, it is NOT non-stick. It is a case-by-case basis where you will need to experiment on your own. If you do try your recipe without oil, and it sticks, you can soak the pan for a little while in warm water with baking soda, and use a little baking soda on a washcloth / sponge. It should come right off.
So, although it does not need to be seasoned, we recommend that you do; over time you will have a smoother, less sticky surface.
