I purchased the Food Cycler and needed replacement filters.I was thrilled to see that Vitamix carries all the filters for these units. I LOVE my food cycler!! I "recycle" all my kitchen waste into instant usable compost. the delivery of the filters was very quick. Excellent service!! thank you Vitamix.....for the Food Cycler : )

I love my food cyler, but the second filter brought up an error message the day after it was installed.
The original carbon filters lasted about 6 months. I ordered 2 sets of replacement filters and the first set lasted 5 weeks before a strong ammonia smell came from the Food Cycler. The second set was put in last week and already the ammonia smell is present. I usually wash the bucket in the Food Cycler after 2 or 3 cycles to reduce smell from the burnt food residue, but the ammonia smell has been so strong that I use the Food Cycler outside when possible.

This device was especially good all winter, when it was so cold. I did not want to go outside to add anything to the outside compost heap. If you do much composting, you will know that composting can be a long process, taking months. This device does the cooking overnight and produces a product that can be added to dirt. Very useful and practical. I do outside composting and vermicomposting but this is the fastest and most convenient.

Company should recycle the filters

I've had my Food Recycler since before Vitamix bought the company, and I am still annoyed that there's no recycling program in place for the filters. It's very wasteful and I'd like to see Vitamix encourage purchasers to send the filters back to be reused by the company - in fact there should be an incentive to do so It seems very ironic for a product that's designed to eliminate waste, that it creates this sort of waste instead!! (I'm not answering the questionnaire below because it's all about blenders which isn't relevant to my review.
It was a little tricky to install. I had my son come and take them out to put them in again, and he accidentally opened one and we got a little charcoal pellets all over creation. It’s not the filters that are the problem, but the design of the Food Cycler itself I guess. They’re hard to remove and replace, and there is still some mild smell if you get close enough. And they’re expensive!
