Its 007 but is it 00 heaven?

If you like James Bond this set is a good purchase for you overall. There are many good qualities the set brings but it is not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. The main areas I would like to bring attention to are as follows:
1. Playability I think that the model is very good in terms of playability. It has many interesting features that will appeal to people such as: A. There is an ejector seat! I must admit though that I have not tested it yet as I have built the car for display purposes and knowing my luck I would somehow break it. B. There is a hidden compartment in the door on the drivers side. It contains a secret phone. Children would love this sort of thing as it is what you would expect to find in a secret agents car. Also all the doors, boot and a section of the top of the car can be opened and closed bringing more playability. C. The car number plates on the front and back of the car are interchangable. I thought this was a nice touch. However, the annoying thing with this is you manually have to change it by pushing on it. Sometimes this means if you play with the car you could have one number plate different to the other if you accidentally touch it. Finally the best function of the whole car in my opinion is that if you pull a leaver inside the car the lights at the front change (by flipping) into machine guns). I thought that was a fantastic idea.
2. The next area I would like to cover is the appearance of the car. I have 2 main points on this: A. The car is easy to recognise as the Aston Martin DB5 which is good but to be honest the colour of the model is a bit dull. This is especially the case if you put it next to a colourful model. B. There is quite a lot of stickers in this build (17 to be exact). It would have been nice at the price of this model to have more printed bricks. Especially as a couple of the stickers are pretty small making it difficult to place them with 100% accuracy.
3. At the cost of this set it is a bit disappointing that there are no minifigures at all. Most sets at this price seem to have some minifigures. Even the car from back to the future had 2 mini figures despite being a much smaller set. I would have hoped to at least have James Bond and Q with this set. This would be the icing on the cake for playability.
4. Finally I would like to just mention the actual build. I think that the creator of this set had excellent imagination in how the structure was put together. The car feels sturdy which is a big plus. Also the build never really felt repetitive even though you were building the same parts for opposite sides of the car. The large amount of linking parts made the build challenging and satisfying at the same time.
In conclusion this set is not quite 00 heaven but is definately worth the purchase if you are thinking about it.

FINALLY 007 MEETS BRICKS

First of all, I am a huge lifelong Bond fan, and I must say, it has been an absolute pleasure putting this kit together. This is something that will excite fans of the license and LEGO alike!
Over the course of one full day, I was subjected to a build that was much more intricate and detailed than I imagined. It really lives up to its Expert title. The Technic skeleton takes up much of the build, and with the body of the car, we are treated to many new and awesome looking pieces. Even as someone that has put together countless giant sets, I had to take a step back and figure out what I was doing wrong.
I will say that some of the various tiny stickers were hard to apply, and the lack of a Bond minifigure is extremely disappointing. On top of that is the price, which is a little on the higher end for this type of vehicle, however it is more than made up for in the actual experience.
For someone like me, every gadget and inch of this car is spectacular for display, with the highlight being the ejector seat. This offers a lot for fans of any age, and with the possibility of it leading to more 007 sets in the future, I highly recommend purchasing at this price!

The playable model

When I found out that LEGO and the Aston Martin/James Bond franchise had partnered up, I was excited to see what the outcome was going to be. Needless to say, after seeing the cool car they chose, it was a day 1 purchase for me.
I own a variety of creator sets and I have a smattering of Technic sets from my 30+ years of owning LEGO sets. This is a very interesting mix of both of those building genres. The time it took me to build this set was longer than a normal build and that was on purpose. Mainly, because I was so interested in the features and the functionality as this model was in process (and I joyfully built it with my 3 year old daughter). I would imagine normal advanced builders would put this together in 2-3 hours.
I understand people's trepidation with the car not exactly looking like the DB5 it is modeled after, but I find that to be the least of my concerns! I think it looks fabulous! Oh and man is it fun to play with. Everybody in my house has NOT been able to stop playing with this set (including me). Kudos to the designer for being able to capture the gadgets and work them into this set. I am not so much amazed, but appreciative of every hidden detail that went into this. Thank you for the fun set and fun build!

James Bond Aston Martin DB5

I will start by echoing a few comments that other builders have made...
Yes, the pictures on the Lego website make the car look a bit blocky.
Yes, the stickers are somewhat annoying.
However, once I started the build, I had a blast assembling this model. I have it sat on my office shelf and it makes me smile when I look at it. It looks far better in person; the online pictures simply don't do it justice.
I have had no problems with any of the mechanisms - I think you just need to be very careful to line up all of the parts correctly (e.g. the technic bricks in the ejector seat that ride along the red guide rail axle). The ejector seat mechanism, by-the-way, is a thing of beauty. It works even better than the real thing, come to think of it, as the actual car ejects the entire roof completely, whereas the Lego designer managed to make the roof retract instead! :)
The entire model is robustly designed, and there a lot of nifty techniques employed to attach all of the various body parts and panels.
All said and done, this is a wonderful model which I would highly recommend to anyone, especially any Bond fans out there. My only (minor) niggles are with the packaging; I think the instruction booklet (which is beautifully thought out) should come with a cardboard backing to prevent it getting squished, plus my windshield part had some scuffs on it so my preference would be that the large transparent parts get individually bagged to prevent damage.
Kudos to the designer for a great model. Now I just need some Spectre agents to chase down!

The Name is Bond, James Bond

Lego hits another home run which is a good thing since of lately Lego has released some dud's for sets over the last 2 years. The attention to detail on the Aston Martin DB5 is right on mark. Knowing Lego has to put it's unique touch twist on each of it's creations it's acceptable for me that the DB5 is a little off compared to the real thing. I wish there was a market to release James Bond sets not sure the age group exists that would generate enough revenue profits for the company. Money is not an issue for me pertaining to the purchase price detail and quality is. There is an upcoming new James Bond movie next year would love to see detailed and quality sets.

A bit heavy on the stickers

While I would have liked the tire shredders to come out on their own all in all this is an exceptionally clever design. While I can see how things like the badges and grey accents may have needed to be stickers, I feel thing like the radar and license plates could have been pre-painted.

Truly Beautiful

This was my first adventure into this complexity of LEGO projects and I have been totally blown away. No missing pieces, clear and detailed instructions, amazing functionality of Q's workmanship and a robust Aston Martin upon completion. I do have to admit my 9-year old granddaughter helped me out for time to time, but I am fully satisfied with this purchase and amazed at the quality of 007's car. All of Q's gadgets on the Aston Martin actually work (WOW) as I remember them when I watched Goldfinger during its initial theatrical release (please don't do the math). More LEGO projects to come!!!

Excellent build

This model did not immediately join my wish-list - I was not taken initally by the rather square appearance, but my curiosity was aroused by the news that it was fully loaded with most of the gadgetry of the original, and I became intrigued to discover how all of this was packed into the model. With an impending birthday and an obliging wife the model was soon in my possession and, unusually for me, I started the build almost immediately (it was raining at the time!). The looks are growning on me. It's no Bugatti, but then I guess it's not intended to be as it is in the Creator rather than Technic series and the same can be said of the Mini and the Beetle. However, I found it to be a most entertaining and enjoyable build. The creativity demonstrated by the ingenious buidling techniques and the imaginative use of elements to represent features of the original is quite astounding. I particularly liked the use of pistols (yes, really!) to represent the engine exhaust manifold pipework. It is quite a challenging build, requiring careful concentration and I found myself mis-reading the instructions occsionally. The greatest challenge is with applying the stickers, Usually a sticker covers most of the element it is attached to with a uniform border around the edge, making alighment reasonably easy. The stickers in this set are quite small and many cover only part of the element, making alignment rather more tricky. I have to resort to using tweezers to get a satisfactory result. Overall, I really enjoyed building this set and it kept me entrertained for a good few hours. I don't like to rush and it was almost a disappointment to finish it, though the finished model with the working 'special features' is a worhtwhile addition to my collection. I thoroughly reccommend it.
