Very happy with the cocotte. Have used it several times since Christmas (a gift). Great cooking results and easy to clean! Now I need a large bouillabaisse.....

Practical and Adorable

I'm was attracted to the stunning blue color and the adorable pig! But the pot is perfect for everything from soups, stews, roasts and bread. It has a wide base so there is more surface area to brown your meat; and boy can it brown with the rough black interior. 6 qt is such a great family size; perfect for 4-6. The dimpled lid adds so much moisture and flavor back into my food, it requires less time than most pots.

Perfect size for a family of 4. The heat capability of the pan is amazing - heats up quickly and evenly, also stays hot for hours. It has self-basting spikes on the interior of the lid which collect and return all moisture back into dish - nothing dries out and the food stays moist. Love to make stews in this pan, it is one stop shopping. Once the pan cools I put in the refrigerator and then right back on to the stove when we need it.

The wide round cocotte is a very versatile size cocotte and I love the pig knob, so whimsical. Think risotto for a crowd, or a large pot of pork and beans for the backyard BBQ. The cocotte keeps hot dishes hot and cold dishes cold due to the retention of heat or cold. I have served cole slaw for cookouts in this, going from the fridge to the buffet table and it keeps the slaw cold. Whatever you chose to make in this cocotte, do show it off at the table, it makes a great presentation.

This cast iron is shallow and wide. It is great for braising, roasting and baking breads. Great for cooking stew or baked beans, it has enough space for every recipe'. The innovative lid features tiny spikes on the interior that continually release condensed liquid back onto the food, yielding moist, flavorful results. Staub cast iron works on all stove top surfaces including gas, electric, glass, ceramic, induction, and halogen. Staub cast iron are Made in France. Heavy weight, tight-fitting lid retains moisture, spikes on the lid create a rain-forest effect evenly returning juices back onto food and it cooked like a pressure cooker. Oven safe up to 900F.

I have been using Le Creuset for many years but since I love the design and color options from Staub, so I purchased my first Staub cocottes in 3 different sizes (6qt, 5.5qt and 4qt). Excited to try it out, I used the 6qt to make chicken soup, hand washed it with soft sponge and after drying, I notice that the bottom part is already losing it's coating only after ONE use. So disappointing!! Quality is not as good as advertised. This is my first and will be my last Staub for sure. Returning the other 2 cocottes.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. This appears to be mineral deposits. If the coating was removed, you would notice flaking or peeling, and/or the metallic core would be visible beneath the enamel. You should be able to remove this residue by following the "Interior Black Matte Enamel" cleaning instructions in the booklet included with your purchase. We hope this helps, and happy cooking!

This piece has a 6 qt capacity but it wider and more shallow. I find myself using it not only for soups, sauces and chili but also casseroles, macaroni and cheese and veggie dishes. I am a collector fo pigs, so the knob sold me. I leave the pot on my stovetop even when I'm not using it. Love the color!
