Roast a chicken in this Coq au Vin and it will become a family favorite! It will become yours too because it is so easy. The heavy duty cast iron oval oven with beautiful enamel coating is a standard in French households. It will roast a chicken, duck or small beef or pork roast. And don't let the oval shape distract you, I've made many a stew and chili, even cornbread, in this pot.

Mon dieu! this oven is the best pot in my house, and I have plenty! On Sudays I always make a chicken stewed in wine and veggies, hence the name Coq au vin, the shape is perfect to cook everything easily without crowding anything. The basting lid keeps the top of my Chicken moist until I remove the lid for a touch of crisping, I bring it to the table and serve the veggies from there because it is so lovely and the lid suggests what will be coming too. This is one piece that will make you smile everytime you even think of making a roast chicken, or any other protein that fit better in an oval cocotte!

I love Staub in general, especially this pan. I love the shape, the color, the even browning of my food, the adorable and interchangeable knob, the perfect seal of the lid to lock in moisture. I seriously can not say one bad thing about this piece. Everyone should own one.

Nothing like a DO roasted Chicken, thei pot doesnt dissapoint! the shape is perfect for a good sized bid, leaving lots of room all round the bird for veggies and potatoes. Can't miss cooking a bird in this baby!

This black matte coq au vin perfectly matches the enamel coated interior, designed for expert browning and searing. So there is nothing better than a chicken roasted in a dutch oven. I love the high straight sides on this and the oval shape is the best for a bird. I can arrange my root veggies evenly spaced around the sides. I would like to find a small oval rack, to sometimes be able to use in the bottom to lift a roast slightly.. not a big deal but it would be a nice option since oval racks are hard to find. it would be awesome in cast iron too! You can cook low and slow utilizing the basting lid and then remove it to get a nice crisp on the top ofthe bird.
