Best product I've reviewed
This security camera has exceeded my expectations in all areas of both ease of use and performance. We live in a very rural setting with poor internet. We put the Lorex camera in my husband's shop, which is all metal and about 40 yards away from the house where the Wi-Fi modem is.
Out of the box (which was nicely packaged), the camera was extremely easy to install and comes with a variety of ways to mount it. It pivots easily on its base - we just stand it on a windowsill in the shop. The printed directions that came in the box were clear and concise - easy to follow.
The software (Lorex Home) was extremely easy to use, with step by step instructions for finding the device and setting it up.
Once set up (which took about 5 minutes), we put it in the shop and I went back to the house, not really expecting a connection. To our surprise, not only did it work, but the picture quality (1080p-HD) was amazing. The wide angle lens lets us see most of the shop which is 60'x100'. Sometimes, depending on the conditions, I'm not able to use the Live view which is not the fault of the system but rather our sketchy internet, yet even then it does record any movement or loud sounds.
A bonus is that I can use the microphone to tell him when dinner's ready without having to walk out there. That would be my only negative comment is that I wish I could increase the Microphone volume so he could hear it over his loud music. I was even able to talk over the microphone when I was 25 miles away (through extreme hills and valleys).
We had a recorded event at 4:14 a.m. and when we looked (I had turned off notifications) it was a bug walking across the camera lens. The night vision quality was very impressive since the shop was completely dark at that time.
Overall, the entire system is very well made and well thought out. We have an Arlo security system for outside and this system exceeds that in many ways - very impressive for the price point.

Ease of use and secure

Ease of use and secure monitoring and affordable
Compact and light surveying camera with full range of functionalities to control.
It is simple to setup to connect to wifi through its mobile app, and place at any spot unless install at fixed location. The package comes with necessary cables and accessories to install fixed location. This process knowing where to place, the setting time takes less than 5 min. From image perspective, it does give clear view either outdoor under daylight or indoor under the dark. For instance image in the dark, user can tell what is.
The other part of benefit of the camera consist of the mobile application with full range of functionalities. It has different view and if have more than a camera, it has capability to display all in one screen up to 9 divided screen. Also, allow other user of mobile app add to it the camera and control. This is great for spouses or homeowners and out in different location.
Regarding sensors, it has sensor for person detection, sound detection, and two way talk. These works quite well. For instance for person and sound, it detect and recorded if it is setup the option the application, and it add into time lime or separate screen where by time of recording shows image and sound caught by the camera.
It functionality is large to describe, but to add to the above description, the function of timeline is a practical and straight forward to assess what was going on while away.
Shortcoming: access to it via desktop is not that straight as via mobile. It need to login to the Lorex account which is same as created for mobile app, and the site contains full range of product and company information, and among menu at the last place has menu for live view. Upon opening it, it shows variety of application that available for all Lorex product, and among them the option for cloud, and link to download web player, client and view now option,. However, attempting via Mac and installing all of the option, unable to view from desktop nor the View now via cloud.
In short, good hardware and software for mobile, without the need of cloud storage that comes attached for major brands like google or ring. Hope Lorex doesnt change in this aspect. Recommendable for those who are planning new security package or replacing as its control and monitoring cannot be unified with other brands.

Solid monitoring camera Interior security

Solid monitoring camera
Interior security cameras are great tools to keep tabs on just about anything. You can use one to as not only a security device but you can monitor your baby's room or any child's room for that matter and maybe catch domesticated (or non) critters roaming the house.
I've been using a 720p wireless camera in my garage keeping tabs on my CNC machine, laser engraver and 3D printers. It worked okay but when using an Amazon Echo Show 5 on my desktop the video would buffer constantly and eventually time out.
Hoping to improve the performance of my system I wanted to try the new Lorex Indoor 1080p wifi camera. So far this is exceeding my expectations. Setup was mostly painless (had to abort and retry... second attempt was successful. I am not a huge fan of having to create and account to use the camera but it seems most are like that and they do try to upsell you the cloud monitoring service however I'm only interested in real time so I don't need the cloud saving of the camera videos.
Setup with Alexa was a breeze. I just had to skill link my new Lorex Home account with Alexa and I was up and running in no time. What truly impresses me that I get absolutely no buffering of my video and so far it doesn't time out in the middle of my 3D printer runs.
The camera does have a micro SD slot so if you want to save videos locally you can or you can save to cloud as previously mentioned. The app will also allow you to record audio or not, you can also do a 180 degree rotation of the image if you decide to mount the camera with base side up. The app also allows you to switch between standard definition or high definition video and you can mute the audio if you wish.
It does come with the camera, a charging adapter and a USB A to micro USB power cable. I do wish it would have had a USB C port on the camera... hey Lorex... get on board! While wireless you do still need to have a power source (no battery) so be aware that location of the camera needs to be close to an outlet (or use extension cords).
I'm extremely pleased with the performance and may pick another up for overhead mounting while using my CNC. For 3D printing I have the camera focused on the nozzle to make sure the print is going as planned.
A solid buy... going to get another! Highly recommended if you need any kind of camera for monitoring inside the house or garage.

Good quality, weak Alexa support

Good quality, weak Alexa support and lorex softwar
The camera has excellent video quality and night time clarity. Setup is a breeze but you must create and register for Lorex account. The camera ships with a pre installed 16gb Micro SD card, which is nice to get started. WiFi connection is pretty strong with google home link up very quick, but to date unable to get Alexa to find the camera.
I dislike that mounting via the camera magnetic base involves screwing into your Location surfaces to mount the metal plate. The lorex software app is basic and designed for small screens like your phone but not for larger screens like iPads, etc...

Cool Indoor Camera We wanted

Cool Indoor Camera
We wanted a security camera to monitor our granddaughter when she goes down for a nap or when she is spending the night. This Lorex camera totally fits the bill. The image quality is very nice and the camera is definitely on the affordable side. If you have the camera configured to record, the footage is not stored in the cloud. It's stored on a memory card in the camera. Lorex was kind enough to include a memory card with the camera, which seems almost unheard of these days. The card is on the small side, 16Gb, but that still allows around a day of continuous recording! You access the camera through their mobile app. You cannot access the camera through your computer aka website or otherwise. You have to be able to install an iOS or Android app. Lorex also does not make an iPad app. It's an iPhone app. Not having an iPad specific app a bit disappointing.
Everything you want to do with the camera is done through the app. The camera is very simple to set up. Plug it in, install the app, and give it access to your local WiFi network. Once you do that, you'll be able to access the camera inside or outside your home. The app itself is pretty comprehensive but slightly complex and confusing to start with. There is no real help within the app. You have to go to the Lorex website to download a manual. The manual does a decent job of explaining things but it didn't match up 100% of what is in the app. Once you play with the app for an hour or two, you begin to understand how to find the various things you want to do. It's beyond the scope of this review to go into too much detail but I will give Lorex kudos for trying to make it semi-automatic to view the recorded footage.
The configuration of the camera allows you to set recording schedules, motion detection, motion zones, and sound detection. Because the camera is plugged into an outlet, the camera is always on (but only recording if you want it to). Unlike a battery-powered camera, you can watch the camera without worrying about killing the battery. Speaking of which, the camera does integrate with Amazon Alexa and Google Home. I hooked it up to my Echo Show and it's as easy as saying, "show me my bedroom camera" and I'm watching the camera live.
I also put the camera in a window pane to look outside. It worked great for that. At least during the daytime. I didn't try it at night. I think the infrared won't work because it will reflect off the glass. If you're looking for an outside camera though just for viewing and can't or don't want to put one outside, it's an option. The motion detection was kind of hit and miss though so think of it more as a webcam.
At this price point, I'm very happy with what the camera and software have to offer. It's certainly more than 50% cheaper than my set of battery-powered cameras I use on the outside of the house and I don't have to have an online plan!
