Lorex enters the Smart W-Fi Camera Market
INITIAL IMPRESSIONS: Packaging is very environmentally-friendlyno Styrofoam, whatsoever. For anyone whos read my previous reviews, you know I find that to be a big plus. Like many products these days, setup is a super-simple process, done entirely through an app. Setup would have been easy, except for one major problem upon plugging the camera in, it initially had NO power. At first, I thought the problem was with the power adapter, so I tested a different oneand, still, nothing. I was worried that my new camera was DOA, which would not have been a good sign, and would have caused this review to be VERY negative. So, I tested another wall power supply, thinking that, maybejust maybeI had two bad units. Unfortunately, the camera still had no power. Im not sure why, but it finally dawned on me to try a different USB cable. I mean, why would it be the cable, right? As it turned out, it WAS the USB cable. Thankfully, I have plenty of USB cables, of different lengths, and of different connector types. After solving this problem, getting the camera up & running took less than two minutes.

Solid monitoring camera Interior security

Solid monitoring camera
Interior security cameras are great tools to keep tabs on just about anything. You can use one to as not only a security device but you can monitor your baby's room or any child's room for that matter and maybe catch domesticated (or non) critters roaming the house.
I've been using a 720p wireless camera in my garage keeping tabs on my CNC machine, laser engraver and 3D printers. It worked okay but when using an Amazon Echo Show 5 on my desktop the video would buffer constantly and eventually time out.
Hoping to improve the performance of my system I wanted to try the new Lorex Indoor 1080p wifi camera. So far this is exceeding my expectations. Setup was mostly painless (had to abort and retry... second attempt was successful. I am not a huge fan of having to create and account to use the camera but it seems most are like that and they do try to upsell you the cloud monitoring service however I'm only interested in real time so I don't need the cloud saving of the camera videos.
Setup with Alexa was a breeze. I just had to skill link my new Lorex Home account with Alexa and I was up and running in no time. What truly impresses me that I get absolutely no buffering of my video and so far it doesn't time out in the middle of my 3D printer runs.
The camera does have a micro SD slot so if you want to save videos locally you can or you can save to cloud as previously mentioned. The app will also allow you to record audio or not, you can also do a 180 degree rotation of the image if you decide to mount the camera with base side up. The app also allows you to switch between standard definition or high definition video and you can mute the audio if you wish.
It does come with the camera, a charging adapter and a USB A to micro USB power cable. I do wish it would have had a USB C port on the camera... hey Lorex... get on board! While wireless you do still need to have a power source (no battery) so be aware that location of the camera needs to be close to an outlet (or use extension cords).
I'm extremely pleased with the performance and may pick another up for overhead mounting while using my CNC. For 3D printing I have the camera focused on the nozzle to make sure the print is going as planned.
A solid buy... going to get another! Highly recommended if you need any kind of camera for monitoring inside the house or garage.

Great price on a solid security camera.
I am very happy with my Lorex - Indoor 1080p Wi-Fi Network Security Camera. The product comes with everything you need in the box and the on-line setup and app worked first time out! I was able to register the device, do a firmware update and connect to my Wi-Fi without any issues. I was able to go from box to fully functioning in about 15 minutes! The device offers high definition, wide-angle video that you can view in real time in the app AND record to an internal (provided) memory card that is expandable. This is great because it means you don't have to buy an expensive monitoring service in order to use the camera. The body is made out of high impact plastic and can be mounted in a variety of ways. All of the hardware you need for that is included. You also get two vinyl stickers for your windows to warn the bad guys that you have video surveillance deployed.
You should be aware of a couple of things - the provided power cable is generous but still limits how far you can place the camera from an outlet. Also, if you enable the motion auto-detect capability the app can flood your phone with notifications if anything moves. This can be easily disabled but be aware that the default is to have it on. Overall the folks at Lorex have created a very good security solution at an excellent price.

Great indoor security camera
The camera arrived in a completely recyclable packaging. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. The accessories included allow for a variety of mounting options. I decided to use the stand and not attach to a wall for ease of moving it around since I'm using it mostly to keep an eye on my pets at home. The app for the camera was easy to understand but I had a bit of a hard time getting the phone camera to read the QR code in the back of the camera to add it to my network and the code was so small that typing it manually was not possible without a magnifying glass... Other than that little hiccup, everything else went well. The camera resolution is adequate and the angle of view allows to see an entire room. Another small item was that it kept reverting to IR lighting at some points when it was unnecessary, but luckily you can disable the auto-IR low light setting in the app settings. Once connected to the network and power supply, it performed as expected. I would have liked it if the camera had a rechargeable battery to be able to be used where there are no power plugs, but that may make the camera more expensive. The notifications are very quick, less than a second from when it detects activity and the app displays the thumbnail of the event. When you click it you have the view options. It records the videos of said activity to the included micro-SD card and it records in a loop, erasing the earlier videos unless saved elsewhere. One thing I liked is the 2-way sound. I saw one of my cats doing something he shouldn't have so I use this option to discourage bad behavior. The cat jumped! So I hope to use this option as a deterrent to have my pets behave when I'm not around. Overall I'll say it's good value for the cost.

Simple camera that's easy to set up
This Lorex camera was a breeze to install and configure. It literally took me less than 5 minutes to download the app to my Android phone, create an account, and get connected. I have it installed in my garage, and mounting it to the wall was also very easy. The magnetic mount made it easy, I just screwed the provided metal plate to the wall and the camera sticks to it magnetically quite well.
The app is easy to use and gives you good control over the settings. The require permissions are no more than what is reasonably required to make it all work. The app reviews on the Google Play store are outdated or uninformed, do not rely on those to make your decision.
Image quality is nice and sharp, and the frame rate is good and lag is minimal. Overall a very nice IP camera at a nice price.

Great Camera with Features
This Lorex camera is a great Camera. From setup to functionality it is very good. After downloading the app and connecting your camera the setup is super easy. Then enjoy the features within the Lorex Home app and admire the great quality of the HD pictures and video. The camera has some pretty cool features too. The camera is both Alexa and Google Assistant compatible. Again connecting to Alexa was smooth and easy. The app works very well and the camera comes with micro SD storage which can be increased to 256GB. The camera has 2 way talk with a pretty decent speaker. With HD quality, night vision, and a person feature detection this camera is loaded with features. I found person detection to be cool. The camera comes with a wall mount plate as well. The sleek look of the camera is futuristic and can be mounted flat or in many other configurations pivoting off the pivoting stand. The camera view can be rotated 180 degrees by changes in the app. On and on it goes with features that prove Lorex left nothing out with this camera. A great camera loaded with features and quality images.
