Poor, Unreliable Video Door bell.

Bought this around Thanksgiving last year. Installed and worked well for 5+ months. Since last week, the unit sends very delayed notifications and the unit rings to my phone after a significant delay, defeating the entire purpose of a video door bell. Sometimes it does not ring at all. Very frustrating. I tried both rebooting & resetting the device, but the problem still persists. So disappointed with the reliability of the device. Right now it is a glorified door bell. Total waste of money

I live in Phoenix Arizona. Worked great during the winter but as soon as the 2021 summer came my lorex doorbell stopped working. Ive already upgraded the low voltage transformer, checked wiring and inspected the door bell. As far i can i tell the camera malfunctioned likely due to the heat. Do not buy if you are one the millions living in a hot area as i suspect will fail.

I bought this doorbell to replace a cloud one that I had privacy concerns about. So far it's just okay. My Lorex Home app doesn't have the same functionality as the manual says it should. I don't have smart zones, so I'm stuck trying to figure out how to exclude tree branches from motion detection. It doesn't have person/vehicle detection, so I'm also getting a huge amount of alerts for cars driving by. Finally, motion detection doesn't seem to work at all at night - I had a package delivered after dark and I was not notified, and the delivery was not recorded.
I hope they improve the app.

Hi People --
Had a difficult time setting up the APP on my i-Phone contacted APP SUPPORT via the CHAT window. Waited about 20 minutes was contacted, and within 1 minute the issue was resolved, my fault I downloaded the wrong app. So Chat Support person (case # 101323911 ) immediately told me which, APP to download, I downloaded and within 5 minutes I was up and running and can see all my cameras on my I-Phone now. Great support -- great home security. I recommend.

Since this is my first foray into the "smart doorbell" world, I can't make any direct comparisons between this and other products. I mention this because it's possible some of my criticisms may just be inherent to this type of device and not just of this particular device.
Instructions / Documentation The instructions were extremely well written and illustrated with only a couple of notable omissions. There is no documentation of the MicroSD slot (specifically how to open the cover and remove/insert the card), nor of the purpose/function of the microUSB port on the back of the doorbell. Since neither of these is actually required for installation (the microSD card is pre-installed) this isn't really a big deal.
Installation Installation is very straightforward, and the nicely illustrated instructions provide the perfect amount of instruction. In my case the only reason it took more than 10 minutes was because the original doorbell installation was wired to a house number light and my doorbell is mounted on a brick wall. The Lorex bracket was too tall to fit neatly in place of the existing traditional doorbell, and because it mounts flush against the wall there was no space behind it for the wires unless I aligned it to the spaces between the bricks. In the end I decided to just replace the house numbers with an updated set and had to drill new holes for the Lorex mounting plate. (Not that it's directly related, but man is it a pain to try to drill holes in brick - especially if you start off trying with a standard masonry bit.)
The instructions also explained how to identify mechanical chimes vs electronic chimes and was completely spot-on telling me what I would find when I removed the cover of the chime box inside the house. There's a little auxiliary box that needs to be connected to your chimes if you have mechanical chimes.
The doorbell also comes with extra wire and connecting hardware in case your existing wires are too short.
Setup I'm not a big fan of Internet-gated apps (i.e. stuff that makes you sign up for an account before you can use a device), but Lorex are providing a service which makes this a reasonable requirement - the ability to interact with the doorbell from the Internet. Though I do take issue with the way Lorex handles multiple users (more on this below.)
The setup couldn't really be any more simplified - you download the app, create an account and then scan the QR code on the back of the doorbell so the app knows instantly what you have (this is way better than having to identify your hardware manually like a lot of other apps make you do). Then you just have to answer a couple of questions (like "do you have a mechanical chime" - so the app knows that it needs to talk to the box in order to make your actual doorbell ring).
If you want more than one person to be able to interact with the doorbell (such as the other people in your household) Lorex requires that EVERYONE open a separate account with them in order to do this. If you attempt to log in with the same account in more than one place, the app annoyingly logs you out of everywhere else. This is a completely artificial requirement designed to force you to give them more data about your household. For myself and my wife it's not a problem, but it means that I can't set this up on my child's phone without giving Lorex information about my children which they have no business having.
Operation / Options The app gives you the ability to change certain behaviors of the doorbell such as sensitivity to motion, range of motion detection etc... With the sensitivity cranked, you'll get notifications every time the wind blows so it pays to dial it in a bit.
The daylight image quality is what I would call fair, but not really impressive. It lacks a lot of detail so while it's 1080p, don't expect blu-ray quality. The night vision function on the other hand is quite impressive. We have a street lamp at the end of our driveway an...

Purchased this doorbell because I was absolutely fed up with expensive Ring products continually failing to operate. It was a very easy transition and I had no problems setting it up. Video clarity is amazing and audio is crystal clear. The only thing I don't like is the app stops recording as soon as you answer a ring so there's no recording of the encounter. This issue is with the app, not the actual doorbell.
If Lorex would come out with a full alarm system, I would happily drop Ring all together.

We had a Ring 2

We had a Ring 2 for nearly three years before we purchased the Lorex doorbell. The only serious problem we had with Ring is it's lack of operation during our Alaska winters; Ring stops working when temperatures plunge under -5° F and we average -10° F. The Lorex doorbell is rated down to -22° F making it perfect for us. We already use Lorex security cameras (12 total) around our home, inside and out, so the Lorex doorbell was a natural choice. Also, the doorbell integrates seamlessly with the Lorex Home App, which is used by all our other cameras. So far, we are extremely pleased with the Lorex doorbell camera!

This camera is better than our last one, and was easy enough to wire in. The picture quality is great, the only thing negative I have to say about it, is that at night it has reflection from its own light from between the cover and the lens, and so there are light blur along the bottom. It doesn't seem to matter too much, doesn't affect the view or function of the camera, it is just a personal irritation. I would recommend this product to others that want security, within budget, and within your control to patrol your own property.
